Q-See Closing Doors Jan 31st 2021 No More Remote Viewing, Options to fix

Hi @EMS Shadow You need to turn off on your router: UPNP, P2P, and in general block access .. see the VPN notes, as often IP IoT / Camera devices are designed to break out of your home network and connect externally. ( basically, "make it work by being less secure" ) Here you are @RBurn Just...

Q-See Closing Doors Jan 31st 2021 No More Remote Viewing, Options to fix

Hi @RBurn Your initial statement was: if you think they would be after you , your living in a dreamland. That is clearly not the case, as cyber attacks are reaching in the homes of of those connected to the internet. Yes, port forwarding and exposed services to all are a significant IT...

Q-See Closing Doors Jan 31st 2021 No More Remote Viewing, Options to fix

I’m not sure how you come up with the word “denigrate” , look it up. My point is people spend to much time on things like this whereas the risk IMO as this is forwarding a port to a nvr and not a computer. Even with a vpn there are still dangers. If you have a lot of time on your hands and...

will bi5 eork for my needs

That's hard to answer. I had a look at the Boavision site looking for specs on the cameras. I didn't find any unless I missed something obvious which is entirely possible since I'm pretty tired. Their cameras do say they're ONVIF compatible so they should work with BI. BI has its' own app...

Newbie question - Is it sensible to use an NVR for recording images from remote IP Cameras or should I use an alternative method?

Hi @stephenc Port Forwarding = sooner or later you will have trouble with that. Just a question of time .. Cameras in rentals .. also a question of legalities .. do do check that Renting short term apartments for good money and expecting customers to be quiet and not celebratory is unwise...

Add a remote camera to local NVR

I don't think anyone wishes to endorse the cyber risky practice of port forwarding - especially from : who presumably is putting their customer data at risk. I think you need to check this out - https://ipcamtalk.com/wiki/how-to-secure-your-network-don-t-get-hacked/

    Hack attempts right now!

You have access to the router config parameters, I assume since you set up port forwarding and did firmware updates. What brand/model router is it? Maybe you can set the NVR & cameas on their own VLAN or dedicated guest nework. Tell them, due to the age of the router, you can not be held...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thank you - I should have been clearer - the ISP equipment (router) has a 4 port switch built into it (as do most of the routers on the market), so I can connect multiple devices to it, including other switches/routers. These are exterior cameras only, so even if somebody gets into it, that...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

First I'm surprised your ISP is letting you hook up more than 1 distinct device to their equipment. NVR is blocked from internet access both in/out via ISP router configuration? NVR is a low-security device and is potentially exposed to the internet via ISP/you misconfiguring. If port...

    Hack attempts right now!

NO NVR should be exposed to the internet....ever. Do not depend on the NVR firmware to protect your network. Study the links @wittaj gave you above.

    Hack attempts right now!

Port forwarding will make it easier to hack. NVRs can be notorious for security breaches as firmware is rarely updated. Set up a VPN that puts you back onto your network. Not a paid VPN that hides your IP for porn and illegal streaming LOL. OpenVPN is what most of us use, but there are a few...

    Hack attempts right now!

An LTS installation was already hacked once. Now they are at it again. It's a 4 hour round trip for me to the venue. It's an LTN8616-P16. About twenty illegal login attempts from the same IP address, (supposedly a Verizon phone customer by whois) in the last 24 hours. They don't seem to be...

Viewing Camera outside of my network without portforwarding.

FWIW, the title of this year-old thread is "Viewing Camera outside of my network without port forwarding." Using a VPN such as OpenVPN on your router for remote access is a MUCH safer method and is recommended over port forwarding...unless you just want to get hacked and jeopardize the security...

    DVR - Mobile - Help

Well without port forwarding I wouldn't be able to see my cameras using my mobile data which is what I'm trying to get to work. So if it's a no-no to port forwarding what else is there?

Cant connect remotely via PC or App

First of all, port forwarding is not recommended, a VPN such as OpenVPN running on your router is highly recommended to keep from getting hacked. That being said, have you tested at canyouseeme.org to see if the port is open to WAN? Does your ISP provide a public IP or do they employ CGNAT...

stream nvr outside of my home

I think we're having a terminology problem: "Private" refers to those unique IP addresses used inside your house, on your LAN. You and I can have the exact same private IP's such as 192.168.0.1-.254 or 192.168.1.1-.254 or 10.0.0.1-.254. "Public" refers to an IP address that can be accessed...

    Looking for USA made cameras

I do trust my network setup, I just need to make sure I am not using cameras from certain countries due to specific reasons. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't CCTV more for corporations or do they have consumer products? The other think I need to look into is RJ45 (CAT6A) vs RG59 (COAX...

    Looking for USA made cameras

Yep, if you want true ability to not phone home or be hacked, make it what CCTV really is or was - zero ability to be seen outside of the building - no VLANs or dual NIC and not a single component of the system is connected to the internet at all. Short of that closed of a system, one has to...

    Reolink - good & bad

I was looking for comparison between Reolink and something else because I want to put some security cameras in my newly created house. I see that in almost all the pages you state how bad Reolink is but I somehow fail to see a side by side comparison made by somebody. Also technology is...

    Aztec ip camera rtsp help

A word of warning, having your cameras directly accessible on internet is a security hazard using port forwarding (may get hacked, denial of service, etc.), you should use something like wireguard or openvpn. That said, see if you can change the port used for each camera, for example if you...

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Rhea V2.800.0000016.0.R.200430 Latest new firmware

@Dramus - I am certainly not claiming to be a network security expert, but please elaborate on how a camera that is isolated from the internet (like in a dual NIC system or VLAN) is a real risk? Are you implying it is the same risk as port forwarding, P2P, UPnP? The main risk of camera...

Need help with China made PTZ cam

Just a couple of caveats, and both are important (sorry to be such as "Debbie Downer")...... Port forwarding is VERY risky...and we're not talking about someone looking at videos of your front yard, rather turning your cam into a bot to perform DoS attacks and/or having access to your network...

    R0 / DS-2CD2x32 BrickfixV2 brick recovery and full upgrade tool - enhanced.

Hi, thanks for the clarifications! That's probably because of UPnP. As soon I enable it I got hacked, like 3 days after. that's crazy. But I need it to enable voWifi :-/ I'll investigate the vpn solution too. I'll let you know if the firmware update is a success!

    R0 / DS-2CD2x32 BrickfixV2 brick recovery and full upgrade tool - enhanced.

Is this because you have specifically configured 'port forwarding' to allow remote access to the camera? This allows the entire internet access to the camera, and puts not just the camera, but your LAN and the devices and data on it at risk. Best avoided. Check out the forum for the many posts...

I agree, I think if they compromised anything else such as banking info they would have probably used it by now. It's just that what if that has been stressing me out this past week! Thanks this is gonna be a long frustrating weekend. Have to learn how to setup a Ubiquiti network securely...

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

1- The most possibly secure system is offline. All internet connected router systems are breakable, if they have wifi (given the distance) they are even more so. The largest network companies in Israel lease a wireless modem/router covering 90% of connected homes in Israel with a master password...

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

I totally agree with the history. From what I see, Dahua has significantly improved on this. The main reason I'm aware is I've been complaining about being forced into long passwords and losing the default account into the NVR. Port forwarding can be secure as evidenced by this is what...

    Verkada Hacked

    Indeed, lightning does strike twice

Based on your screenshot it looks like two different cameras (different firmware version numbers listed) this is happening to. Another possibility is that you've left UPnP enabled in your router, and therefore your cameras are getting hacked and the hacker is changing their address, username...
