    First Time Cam/Security Install Planning

Just unplug power, the ethernet can stay or also be unplugged. Without power it's not active.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I think you assume correctly. On the other hand if the recipient is actually paying their student loan all of a sudden they have extra cash every month. Either way, it's play money.

    How to get gigabit speeds?

Why would a camera even need 100 megabit speeds when, at most, an 8K camera with a high bit rate only sends a few megabits per second. When we talk "network speed" it is actually a little misleading. It's more like network capacity rather than speed. Generally, on a PoE switch yellow...

Why are my gigabit NIC's only doing 100mb?

I've never seen that even when I had a Reolink.

Why are my gigabit NIC's only doing 100mb?

Once again, you are looking at the actual data throughput and not the theoretical maximum data throughput. You'd need to generate a gig of data in a constant stream to see that in Resource Monitor or Task Manager.

    Camera placement and vendor/model suggestions

For the house, itself, the basic configuration is three cameras on the long sides house. One on each end looking back toward each other and one more in the middle looking straight out. This applies to the front and rear of the house. The sides have two cameras looking back toward each other...

3 cams have "video was being recorded" icon from over an hour ago

I'd lower the "combine and cut" time down to one hour. Makes it easier when looking for a specific event.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I remember seeing a few shots of the security camera installs on the Nancy-Paul Palace. Looked like a trunk slammer did the work with exposed wiring, loops of wire hanging down and no weatherproofing on the cable gland. I'd be surprised if they were even working and, if they were, the video...

Why are my gigabit NIC's only doing 100mb?

I have a couple of gig NICs in my Blue Iris machine. The speed you see will never be a gig unless and until you push that much data through one of those NIC. I have 22 cameras running through on, gig, NIC and at best it run around 200Mb/PS. That's the total data load, not the speed of the NIC...

High Latency Caused by IP Camera

Video camera traffic going through the router is the source of your latency. The ideal situation is to have video cameras on their own, private, network that never connects to your "normal" LAN. I have four cameras connected using a wireless bridge, but not as part of a mesh system, and they...

Is an i5-3470 too old for BI?

If you use DeepStack or SenseAI the GTX970 will work well for either. Just don't use it for hardware acceleration of the video in Blue Iris.

Daylight saving hour change, all OK for you?

Even if the Republicans end up in control, it'll still take a long time. We'll have to have a "Blue Ribbon Commission" study the whole question for a few years, and at a cost of millions, then a long series of hearings. Then the bill will get re-written and have to go back to the Senate for...

How to block my IP cameras from the internet and my local network?

One of the problems with removing the gateway, or even spoofing a gateway address, is that some cameras will "explore" on their own looking for a route. Being on a second NIC with not route to the other NIC, at all, eliminates that possibility as well. This is probably as close as you can get...

How to block my IP cameras from the internet and my local network?

No, not without configuring you BI machine to route between the two different networks. By default Windows does zero routing.
