    Cable labeling system

I have a 12 port patch panel and 18 port switch dedicated to the cameras. I marked each cable with the patch port number before pulling. Each camera's IP address is the port number + 100. So the camera on port 12 is 192.168.140.112. I also have an Excel sheet with details on my network. One tab...

Two cameras up - notes and pics included

The cables for these two cameras enter the attic through the garage ceiling at the conduit body by the pink pool. It's just a 1/2" hole in the ceiling right above the conduit body. I didn't want to make a bigger hole and try to push a whole 3/4" conduit through. There's just one big attic over...

You're just pinging yourself. You need to ping the camera at 192.168.1.108. If it doesn't respond, its either offline or using a different IP address. One possibility is that the camera was set to DHCP in which case it will either get some other IP address from a DHCP server (usually your...

Are you sure the camera is getting power? You don't configure a new network connection in Windows. You edit the connection to set a static IP address on whatever interface is connected to the same physical network as the printer, typically the wired Ethernet interface. Assuming the camera...

Just configure a computer with an IP address of 192.168.1.110 and connect it to the same switch as the new camera. Point your browser to 192.168.1.108. Log in and change the IP address to whatever fits your network. If you have a DHCP server on your network, make sure you set the cameras to...

Cam #7 and #8 are up (finished)

Noted. Right now, there's one strap on the far left right next to the conduit body and one in the middle of the run.

I believe it said something about sunlight resistance but I could be mistaken. Anyway, I applied multiple coats of primer and paint so it should protect it from our mild climate.

I also love things that won't let you paste a password in. Good job encouraging people to use weaker passwords.

Someone at Monoprice needs a kick in the nuts

Both batches are unshielded Cat6 and should be the same. I did notice that the 500' box was dry while the 1000' box had some lube applied. They were purchased a few years apart so who knows if the supplier is even the same. I opened the 500' box to feed a few feet back in and it looked...

Someone at Monoprice needs a kick in the nuts

My previous box of 1000' Cat6 was fine so I got a 500' box of the same to complete my installation. I measure the cable lengths needed, pull them from the box, and re-coil them for carrying into the attic. This latest box won't coil nicely AT ALL. There are minor kinks every couple of feet and...

The Purple is inside the PC in the only 3.5" bay. The SSD is in an adapter which replaces the DVD. If you had to mount it outside of the case, the fastest would be to adapt one of the SATA ports to an eSATA connector on the back of the PC, then stick the drive in a case with an eSATA port. That...

Your current preferred way to access BI on cell phone?

I have the Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite and just use L2TP over IPSec since it was easier to configure. Ubiquiti routers do support OpenVPN but its all command line and I haven't found a guide online that doesn't leave some gaps in my understanding of it. I've also read it doesn't really have the...

Your current preferred way to access BI on cell phone?

On my old Note 4, I ran Nova Launcher which let me create a widget that went straight to my VPN connection. I have a Pixel now and was able to create a widget that takes me to the VPN listing, then I tap the connection I want, then "connect". Better than going to long way, but still not great...

You'll still need to protect the RJ45 connection. If you plan on having it in the open, I'd still wrap it in coax seal.

For running cable outside, its best to run it in conduit for protection from the elements, vandals, and critters. I used 3/4" schedule 40 UV resistant PVC (easy to work with) and painted it to match the house. You can use tapcons and a hammer drill to secure the clamps to concrete.

I have that same switch. So far so good. There are cheap adapters to/from most PC video standards. I believe I'm using a Displayport->VGA adapter on mine since it goes through a VGA KVM switch.

Using Power over Ethernet cameras with Blue Iris?

Most of this forum is probably using Blue Iris with POE cameras. As long as they're on the same network, just point Blue Iris to the camera's IP address to add it. Blue Iris doesn't know or care about the POE part.

Yeah eBay is OK. You just have to be patient to find a decent one at a good price. I know I paid a little too much but by that point I was anxious to get up and running. It'll last a long time though.
