    Another NVR vs BI question

Keep in mind that the trial version of BI doesn't support direct-to-disk recording which will result in very high CPU utilization. Desktop CPUs will handle BI best.

    Another NVR vs BI question

Most PC BIOSs have an option to turn back on automatically after power is restored. The UPS would need the same ability. The BI app works well and yes, you can see all cameras at once.

Example of dome vs turret in rain at night

I know its been discussed before, but I thought I'd share some side-by-side photos of domes vs. turrets with IR enabled in the rain. "EastFront" is a Dahua HDBW4231F-E2-M/M12 dual starlight mini-wedge (dome) mounted on a PFB203W wall mount bracket so the domes face downward. "Gate" is a Dahua...

Cam #5 and #6 are up (includes dual starlight)

Yes, these are in corridor mode. There is a triangular blind spot perpendicular to the house. So they could theoretically hop the wall and stand between the windows undetected. But if they made a move toward either window, they'd come into view. As stated in the first post, I needed to keep the...

    Why Buy Dahua?

I've never regretted spending too much on a computer. But I've definitely regretted spending too little. Example: I wanted a cheap PC to connect to the TV for certain situations. I got a $200 Nuc/Brix style unit. Sure, the Intel GPU can handle video decoding, but the "SSD" is 32 GB of...

SD card disappeared from 3 of 6 cameras

It was functioning and receiving clips the last time I checked, but now its just not there as far as the web UI says. I power cycled one of them but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can try that doesn't require opening up the camera?

Do you guys restrict cameras from accessing internet?

They're also looking for anything they can draft into a bot army for mining cryptocurrency or performing DDOS attacks. IOT devices are usually the low hanging fruit because there's so many of them, security is poor to non-existent, and they're often unmaintained.

My cameras do not have internet access but blue Iris does so I get notifications.

    Smart receptacles

I've caught some flak on another kind of camera forum for deciding to only buy OEM batteries in the future over much cheaper 3rd party batteries. I made my decision when I learned that 3rd party batteries just report a constant (fake) temperature back to the charger so the battery could be on...

    Smart receptacles

At least a smoking plug-in USB transformer can be pulled out of the wall if you're home. You'd have to run to the breaker panel and probably kill power to the whole house a hard-wired one did the same. Also, USB charging standards evolve so quickly, I'd rather not have to touch the house's...

2 purple drives and an SSD or just 2 purple

I have a 120 GB SSD for Windows+BI and a 4 TB purple for clips. My clips.dat file is only 61 MB after about 6 months of operation. The whole C drive is using just under 30 GB. I have 7 cameras running now with two more planned. The only thing I wished I'd done differently is the size of the...

SSD M.2 and 16 GB OPTANE MEMORY

And if you have lots of uncached hard drive I/O going on at the same time, as is typical in a PC, hard drive performance goes in the toilet due to seek time. SSDs handle that much better. That may not be a deal breaker on a BI PC as long as you dedicate it to the task and disable things like...

    Review-Dahua IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M Dual Starlight Cam

Interesting. On mine, one channel really likes to stay in color mode long past the point where all of the other starlights, including this camera's other channel, have switched to black and white. If I manually switch the B&W, then back to auto, it'll stay B&W for the night, then the issue...

SSD M.2 and 16 GB OPTANE MEMORY

Yep, ditch the Optane. I just bough a new Dell XPS and it came with 16 GB of Optane and a 1 TB spinning drive. Before even powering it up once, I removed both and installed an NVME SSD and a 1 TB SATA SSD. The NVME drive benchmarks at 3500 MB/sec read and 2500 write, well past SATA's 500/500...
