New Amcrest AD410 doorbell Cam Review

ELI5, Please? I am wanting to add a doorbell cam to my BI network and have been reading all that I can on the subject and considering the Reolink due to its PoE. Someone explain to me how to integrate this (or any) wifi device into my BI network while at the same time keeping the wifi device...

Surly Guy Checking Back In... New Cams, New Questions

Thanks! Somehow I didn't realize that it was "recording" my moves of the camera. i'll give that another try. What I need to implement is auto tracking and especially triggering by other cams. I saw a minor event Friday night where auto tracking would have been useful, just to know more about...

Surly Guy Checking Back In... New Cams, New Questions

Thanks for this; Speed Dome makes sense(!) The compass/ degree thing really has me confused. The cam is mounted using its included bracket and of course the Speed Dome body can't be rotated within the mount... so I assume the side toward the bracket would naturally be the "back", right? Using...

Surly Guy Checking Back In... New Cams, New Questions

HEY, Y'ALL! Yes, It has been a while. I am still running the BI system that y'all helped me get running several years ago, mailbox cams, bird feeder cams etc. Proud to say that the system that you guys helped me get setup all those years ago is still running, still dead-reliable save for a...

    New Ring Dash Cam

I don't care for the big tech overreach that is available in this or may be soon. Does it have a GPS? Does it not just get power from but also LOG DATA from the OBDII? How much will insurance companies pay for that access? Yeah, I don't trust these guys, at all. I also don't have an Echo OR a Ring

A Brief Look at a MicroBurst... and a Reminder to TEST your UPS

Recommendations needed. (camera) I intend to mount two or more cams up on the TV antenna mast over the house. (seen in one of the attached clips) for future weather events and also to give me an overview of my area, primarily of the cemetery that is to my West to monitor vehicle movements (no...

A Brief Look at a MicroBurst... and a Reminder to TEST your UPS

A lot of good info there, thanks for that. Without delving too deeply into power supply design theory and battery technology, a great first step for anyone is to just kill the power either locally (that one receptacle or that room) or (preferably) globally (the main breaker for the whole...

A Brief Look at a MicroBurst... and a Reminder to TEST your UPS

Yah, I know. It actually happened at 15:10 I am not dedicated enough to the maintenance of the system. I TRULY need to spend some real time getting the time server, remote viewing, phone viewing etc all working as they should AND setting motion alerts. I might need to hire someone(!)

A Brief Look at a MicroBurst... and a Reminder to TEST your UPS

8/5/22 at 3:05PM a pop-up storm hit my neighborhood lasting only fifteen minutes but within it there was a "microburst" of wind that felled a bunch of hardwood trees, tore off some roofs, caused power outages and general mayhem, all in about two minutes. My property received no damage but many...

    Bird Feeder Hide

Immediate indication is it’s the cam. I swapped one of my eyeball cams (plugged it in and propped it up in the feeder) and it has already recorded many times longer than the old cam was running. It has been lately running for only 8-10 seconds with twenty minute breaks in between. This swapped...

    Bird Feeder Hide

IDK if these UG cables are foot-marked I'll try to remember to check. I was just looking at a satellite image of the property and it's quite possible the two location cables ARE the same length. Dashed lines are underground Feeder cam: solid orange is up, then in attic then down into server...

    Bird Feeder Hide

funny enough: this cam is at the far N/E corner of the property. I have another cam on a utility pole at the far S/W corner of the property, also conduit etc.. and the tester sees that cam at exactly 41.6 meters as well. I feel fairly certain that the SW cam is further but I guess it's possible...

    Bird Feeder Hide

That's where I'll go next, once I take a moment to mess with it. The tester says it's 41.6 meters and that matches what I know about the measurements of the house and the driveway/property. Adding it in my head I come up with 125' as a minimum distance, so it fits given the slack that I would...

    Bird Feeder Hide

I'm certain that the issue is not heat related if only because it started the sporadic operation immediately upon install and that was at night, in February. It has continued the on-off operation since then with no real differentiation night/day.

    Bird Feeder Hide

It appears that the camera internally connects 4&5 and also Separately 3&6 whereas the other cams connect 345&6.

    Bird Feeder Hide

When I do the continuity test with the widget plugged in, I get the display with 12345678 |||||||| 12345678 when I test it with the cam plugged in, the continuity result is when checking other cables with other cams attached, they look like this minor difference but I don’t know the...

    Bird Feeder Hide

I expect it to be the cable, though the tester didn't spot a problem with it. I have not tested it from the cam end to verify continuous PoE operation, yet. The cable is underground rated cable in conduit from the bird house to the house, up the siding behind trim (possible nail area) then...

    Bird Feeder Hide

Not a heat issue AFAIK. It started doing this as soon as I put it in the feeder, at night, while prior to that it had run continuously both on the bench and while mounted on the house. I feel fairly certain it's cable-related.

    Bird Feeder Hide

I'm still having issues with this cam refusing to stay operational. It will record sporadically, less than a half hour and then black out for a long while. I've been way busy with higher-priority things and have made no real attempt to resolve this. I bought one of the cable tester kits as...

    Bird Feeder Hide

No problem with dusting the lens, yet but I don't fill it with birdseed; I put it maybe a 1/4 capacity. I don't really want a lot of bird traffic at this feeder but just a little so that it looks normal, The camera will not focus closely enough to resolve more than a blur of any bird on the feeder.

Three Dahua Bricks... Is There a Trick to UNBrick?

Once again, the forum has helped save me some headache!. On the considered advice of many here I replaced my failed 24P switch with three 8P switches for the redundancy factor. It has now been implemented as the larger switch (SG2210MP) just took a dump. The ethernet was still passing through to...

    Bird Feeder Hide

It seemed a bit of a PITA but I THINK I successfully rotated the errant pics. I did something similar to steps described above…. I went each pic and “saved as” each pic into a new folder on my PC. I then went that folder and right-clicked and ‘rotate right’ on each. I did not actually have to...

    Bird Feeder Hide

One nice thing about this is that I can turn the bird feeder 360* and record whatever. What I’d LOVE to do is motorize and automate it! Let THAT freak ‘em out. Honey, that bird feeder is following us….. I am seriously contemplating a round or octagon feeder with a ptz inside. No. Stop that...

    Bird Feeder Hide

It is jammed tight against the plastic window because the minimum length of the cam is precisely a teensy bit more than the available space (which was pure happenstance). I had to cut the ‘nonremovable’ (HAH!-hold my beer) hood from the cam to get it i there and it’s pretty tight. I have the IR...
