Advice on "Field Cameras" starting new house construction (no internet for at least 12 months)

Hello everyone... At the headline states, I'm going to start building a new house on a recently cleared parcel up in the mountains. There's no way I can get internet access up there until much later in the process. In the meantime, I want to get some motion-triggered cameras setup at the site...

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Hey SoCal, Well, given my "modest" A/B testing, it seems to come down to the number of cores that makes the difference. That plus a WHOLE LOTTA tuning on an camera by camera basis to find the sweet spot between framerate and usability. As I have added more and more 4K cameras, it's turned into...

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Well...I am still EXCEEDINGLY happy with the performance I'm getting after our little "tuning" session from some months back! On average with the 35 cameras running, I'm still hovering around the 38% mark on CPU load! Which offers me plenty of headroom to add the next wave of cameras:headbang...

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Ugh.....as usual, I need bp to help me see the light! It WAS EXACTLY THAT! Because it's my desktop machine, I don't have BI setup as a service in case I want to play a game or do something CPU intensive. I will just close down BI, play my game and re-launch. I just toggled run as a service...

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Heya bp2008, So on other applications, the load times are what I usually expect, like loading up Photoshop CC and its up and running in seconds. But...I just tried your suggestion of disabling some cameras and reloading. If I disable about 15 cameras, my load time drops to about 35 seconds. If...

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Hey crw030.... Many thanks for the response! Normally I would go along with you (as I've seen this phenomenon develop over time). But it has been like this since I first built the machine about 4 months ago. So, I can vouch for the fact that it has always loaded this slowly.

BI load times dramatically different on 2 PC's with exact same specs

Hey Folks....Happy First Of May! So I've been running BI on my main desktop machine for about 4 months now. It was a brand new rig with very high end specs: Core i9-79080XE 128GB Ram (More than BI needs, but again this is my desktop PC) 1TB M-2 SSD Asus Rampage VI Extreme Motherboard Windows...

    Blue Iris UI3

Hi bp2008... Thanks a bunch for implementing the mouse wheel option in Extras! Much Obliged!

    Blue Iris UI3

Ha Ha....Thanks man you are great! Funny thing about what you said....I know what you mean by the "rest of the world" using the de-facto standard, because I use a lot of software and they all do it the way you have implemented. It may just come down to "muscle-memory" with Blue Iris, because I...

    Blue Iris UI3

Hey bp..I hope you are well! So as mentioned, I have migrated all my BI installs to the new UI3 and I love it. I have a small request which I think "should" be easy to implement...but I could be wrong. Is there any easy way in the preferences section add a toggle to change the mouse scroll...

    4.7.3 - April 20, 2018

Hey All... I know it's been said a bunch of times, but I want to say it again....THANKS VERY MUCH to bp2008 and ruppmeister for making UI3 so great! I have been using it for a while now and really appreciate how feature rich and performant it is across a number of devices including the smart...

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

Hey Elrick... There are lots of great PTZ POE cameras that run at 1080P. Here's one from Hikvision that I've purchased in the past...

    BI setup

Hi Chris70cuda, What fenderman said...in general, you want to reserve secondary drives for the sole purpose of recording and storing your Blue Iris alers, recordings, and archival clips.

    Painting Cameras Black?

Hey Fastb.... That is super cool! Haven't seen them before...did a quick amazon search and found a link...

    Painting Cameras Black?

All good points! I guess for me..the likelihood of keeping any one camera in operation for 10+ years is highly unlikely as I tend to constantly upgrade cameras every 3-4 years as new tech becomes available But I do get the point you are making and is good advice!

    Painting Cameras Black?

If you are talking direct sunlight in Texas, then it could be an issue...hence my caveat for location being a factor. Again, I've had painted cameras in AZ working for several years now...but the Tan color is quite different from Black in terms of absorption. My two cents!

    Painting Cameras Black?

I've only used metal cased cameras, I would agree that metal is likely to get hotter...but as noted, they seem to work just fine over the long-haul

    Suggestions for POE indoor cameras

Hey Farmer D, I have the POE version of Amcrest and they are pretty decent and reliable (in my experience). Picture quality is decent both night and day, and integrates well with Blue Iris (not sure if you are using it). One thing of note...these camera are primarily designed to sit on a shelf...

    Painting Cameras Black?

Hi rmanTX, I cannot speak for others, but can only share my own experiences over the past 5+ years. In that time, I've painted all of my outdoor cameras (bullets, ptz's large and small) a very dark flat-matte brown color. So almost black but not quite. And I've operated dozens of these cameras...

    Change recording location to NAS

Hey Sean313... I've not used NAS, so can't really help there...and I can see SOME benefits, however in my experience running Blue Iris for the past 4 years I've never had an issue with HD's failing. Not to say that it can't happen, because it certainly can but my suggestion would be to add...

    Camera Discovery

Thanks Fenderman...I get it! Is funny (and timely) that you mention getting a new router because just today I decided to bite the bullet and get a new modem and a new router as I am sick and tired of this crappy Comcast "Business Class" modem/router combo that I've been saddled with for several...

    Camera Discovery

Guys...just out of curiosity, is there any significant benefit of using the router to reserve the IP addresses, versus just setting static IP addresses on the cameras themselves (this is what I do). Just want to understand if there's any real advantage/disadvantage one method vs the other.

    BlueIris on your TV!

Hey Dasstrum...nice video and fun to see your setup. I've got UI3 on all my TV's now and love having the ability to view the cameras in all the major rooms in the house. Question....given that you can see both the rapsberry pi and the TV running at the same time, do you notice any latency on the...

    Cameras to individual HD's

Hey Dazcomputers... What fenderman said! Plus (and you may already do this), you may want to put your PC with BI installed on an APC Battery backup in case of power failure. I've got all of my "mission critical" machines on these as it can sometimes wreak havoc with things that are constantly...

    Optical Zoom ?

Hi Rick Rick.... I could be wrong, but it seems like that is the what the motion triggers are for, creating an event for Blue Iris to start recording movement. If you are panning/zooming.....by definition, you are creating movement which BI see's as a "triggerable" event. I assume that you are...

Has Anyone Used: SUNBA 601-D20X ?

Hey n8xja... I purchased this camera as well and can vouch for much of what bctrainers notes above, but it sounds like he's had much worse luck than me on a couple of fronts. To be fair, these are not the worst cameras I've bought and I've not had any of the "Mechanical" issues that he has had...

    28 to 1

Hi Adamrx7, I have a similar setup with 33 cameras, two of which are Wifi and the rest are wired. I'm also using Unifi AP's with strong signal and close proximity to the Wifi cameras. But they still are flaky despite all of this. They work "ok" but not great and will often go out on me during...

Anyone use one of these OEM 4MP 30x PTZ cameras?

Hey ObservantOrange... As one who has "learned the hard way" I can vouch for Fenderman's statement. Although for me, it's been an interesting "journey of discovery", I'd never recommend buying these cameras for the faint of heart as they can be extremely challenging to work with and maintain...

BI Power cycle camera on loss of signal?

ok, understood....can only speak from experience here, but I have chosen to go pretty much 100% on POE for a lot of reasons, but the remote power cycle feature from a managed switch has turned into a life saver! I have a BI setup in my house in Arizona and we are only there for a few months...
