    Geofence V5 vs V4

My biggest BI issue is geofencing. During the week when BI is running the "work" schedule it's not terrible. It generally catches when my wife and I leave and goes into the "away" profile and generally catches when I get home (which is before the "work" schedule ends) and changes to the "home"...

    HDMI extender

My BI server is about to be relocated about 40' from it's current location at the living room TV. I'm spending part of the upcoming holiday weekend in the attic running cabling for cameras and access points. Is there any difference in the various HDMI to Ethernet adapters? Or is there a...

    Protecting Outdoor Cameras from Lightning

Surge protection in layers is best. The house has a whole house surge protector, the valuable electronics are plugged into surge protection outlets, the computers are plugged into surge protection/UPS units that are plugged into the surge protection outlets. None of that is going to survive a...

Combination Arc Fault Circuit Breaker tripping

Replacing an AFCI/CAFCI breaker with another brand isn't a viable option, the breakers are Almost interchangable. They will generally fit physically, but the connection to the bus may not be correct. It might work for a while, but I've seen it burn out the breaker and panel in 12 months...

    The three bears

And, I f'd up on Saturday. I spent most of the day working in the garage with the door open, being aware of sounds outside, not terribly concerned as I figured stinky man and chemicals weren't the best bear attractant. Got done with what I was working on, closed the door, went inside, NBD. My...

    The three bears

I've lived in Central Florida my entire live, and had never seen a black bear until we moved to where we live now. We're not that far out of town, but most of the area is 1 home per 5 acres. We've seen their paw prints, seen their marks on trees, seen the aftermath of them deciding the bird...

    Doorbell cam POE

I thought a WiFi doorbell cam would be a great, easy option, but it looks like it's a 100% crapshoot as to quality/usability. Then I remembered that I did run Cat5e to the doorbell so there's no reason I can't go POE. My wife wants the ability to talk to whoever is at the door, I assume there...

Camera in the woods, filming into the light

License plate capture isn't the goal, it would be a bonus if it happened. The driveway cam is a long term project (good for planning, bad for forums). Right now, I would say I am playing with cameras and planning the layout. I have 2 cameras on WiFi and 2 on ethernet over powerline adaptors...

Camera in the woods, filming into the light

Complete variable. Closer to drive would mean fewer trees, further from the drive would give better concealment without added camouflage. I would say no closer than 10' and anything further than 25' is going to just filming the woodland creatures.

Camera in the woods, filming into the light

One of the locations I want to film on our property is our 300ish feet of driveway. There is a 45 degree bend that would make a great location to hide a camera for filming a front and back view of any vehicle that uses the drive. The problems I think are: The camera would be hidden in the...
