Seeking some guidance choosing first home camera setup

Bi only runs on windows joke or not, windows is not malware, far from it. It isn’t 1995 anymore

    What doorbell camera in 2022?

I have an easy viz it is dying a short death. It takes direct sun and now after 18 months I have to power cycle it to get it online. Then it stops. it still works the chime but as a camera it is dead. Need to warranty it out. one major reason I can’t even look at the new UniFi as it is...

    Image tearing/streaking

I am sure of it too, it is just sometimes difficult to identify where in the guide to look for certain issues and it can be easier to ask in the forum which I have found super helpful to date.

    Image tearing/streaking

I was just laughing about it. It is not a negative, this was a me thing I did stumble upon what seems to be a useful setting. The group settings in UI3. Guess it has its own "Dynamic Max Resolution" This was set to 1440. So I slid it to the max and things improved drastically. See...

    Image tearing/streaking

@DanDenver yeah, that is crazy, this images look great and tell me this is a me issue, it is just a matter of sorting the why. similar to the streaking because of the encoding, maybe this too is another setting I am missing somewhere. As for the mutated thread, I am good with it. It is all...

    Image tearing/streaking

@wittaj Thanks for the recommendation. I never realized I can go beyond the the 1024 max setting, but seems custom lets me go way higher if desired. I guess one thing I am seeing now that is on is a BI multi view issue. For instance, if I am viewing the video of my 3 cameras, the time stamp...

    Image tearing/streaking

I’ll mess with those settings from a improvement perspective, but the tearing issue I had appears resolved changing to generic. now I seek being able to see the main feed in bi, which I think is only possible if I create a duplicate camera that doesn’t record and only has the main configured...

    Image tearing/streaking

But when you look at live view is it displaying the main stream or the sub?

    Image tearing/streaking

An interesting question. In BI, all my feeds are the secondary stream, so the quality is low till triggered. I assume this is in my setup. Is the strategy to always record the primary or make the switch when triggered? With that, if I record the secondary 24/7, in BI is the strategy to have...

yeah, edge works OK. But IE is better with the plugin and live viewing on main stream. Thanks!

    Image tearing/streaking

yes, the 5442. I had it at 30/30, 15/15 and even 30/60, all did the same and with daylight. Bit rate was already set to max and CBR. I need to wait till tomorrow, but I stumbled upon a post this event (albeit a little older) and it talked about smart codec/encoding strategy. It was set to...

    Image tearing/streaking

There are a few threads on this topic without real resolution so figured to have my own. middle of the day and might see the pixelated blob behind a person walking through the frame. first off, when this happens, is it a bi issue, bi computer issue, browser view or camera issue? that’s just...

    SD cards

thanks. I know for slr and other rpi duties the evo cards are durable. not industrial, but lots and lots of write durability. I have a cheapo maybe 8GB in a doorbell camera, whats a good capacity target? I like to suspect that since I am not looking for 24/7 recording and instead just...

    SD cards

Probably a stupid question and I think I know the answer with prices these days. do you guys put so cards in the camera as a fail safe to the BI system going down or not firing?

    Motion Detection

Got it. I will play with it. I think the key from reading above is the idea of multiple layers if needed. A single box or trip wire might be ok. But other layers on it improve from good to better to best.

    Motion Detection

Is there a size option I am missing for sensitivity? Something per say instead of 50% of my wife required it is only 25%. Or is this merely where all the multiple detectors come in?
  21. K

    Motion Detection

That helps. I may extend into an area I don’t care about to get the detection in the area I want while that extra area does t actually trip

    Motion Detection

Just want to follow up with a question on ivs. I set a trip wire and was watching it live as my wife passed over it, but it didn’t trigger till half her body was over the line. Just want to understand the strategy of improving this.

    Unreliable IVS Intrusion setup

I’m just exploring Ivs over blue deep stack, but if the door is above the trash can, I say make the detection box larger.

    Motion Detection

Dang. I just looked through the linked thread. I didn’t realize how smart these cameras are on their own. not to mention the tripwires and areas configuration seems way cleaner than it is in BI. It was an aspect I never messed with as it was never clear to me. Guess I’ll be messing with this a bit.

    Motion Detection

I can see the load issue if it was local. For me I have deep stack in a docket container. Not that that changes the strategy overall, but it is the point that other than saving stills, it adds minimal load to my system.

    Motion Detection

It seems things are constantly evolving and changing, so keeping up is sometimes hard. With image and motion detection, I am trying to understand something. When I began my camera journey, I read about deepstack, and that what my direction. Then the improvement of camera detection followed so...

    FOV and camera config

ok, getting things a little more dialed in. took the soffit down to locate a more permanent mount point other that a 2x4 leaning against the house. Only direction I could go is 6-10 inches left, but I doubt that buys me anything given the current state. If anything some tilting and rotating...

    5442 ip reset

you only have one untagged vlan and that is usually default. If you have a security vlan you have to set the port profile to it as opposed to all. Reason being, the camera does not appear to support vlan tagging/trunking so the port has to be the profile of the subnet/vlan it is on.
