Why I Like Redundant Views/Multiple Cam Views

For the cameras in the upstairs windows, how did you go about mounting them? Are those rooms or dormers as I am sure that changes the strategy/techniques

rolling bands in image at night

This is all awesome. I will need to play with it. 1/120,definitely resolved it, proving all theories here that it is from the lights and only tweaking the settings can resolve the problem. Thanks guys. I'm just glad to know it is not because I am doing something wrong and in fact it is a...

rolling bands in image at night

seems to only happen when I have shutter priority at 1/500. As I played with it and the settings, when I got to 1/100 I no longer see them. Also, I do not see them on the daytime image

rolling bands in image at night

so, when the weather was warm, my night images were normal. now that the weather cooled, I was reviewing footage and I see these rolling bands vertically in the image. they roll left to right. camera is a 5442 I have no idea if it is temperature related, but I wanted to make it known...

Motion detection seems hit or miss, looking for some advice

Got it. Seems behavior is different if I set camera to dahua vs generic / onvif, hope that's all it is.

Motion detection seems hit or miss, looking for some advice

Is that to imply that "pulling onvif events" means the camera is doing the motion detection and this is then triggering blue iris as it records the feed?

Motion detection seems hit or miss, looking for some advice

I have the IPC-t5442t and the camera itself is quite good. It is my first camera, so my issue can be user error/configuration issue or a misunderstanding. My setup is to record 24/7 from the substream and then on motion BI snaps an image and the AI add-on tells BI to record the HD feed. The...

Tips and tricks for cameras when having lightning on house

This is awesome, I never would ha e given any consideration to lower cameras like that. Now it just gets the mind going about how to add more cameras. Rely on a main wired and add a cheaper wireless one like ezviz. Or, run another wire or invest in a unifi flex switch to split the one poe into...

Tips and tricks for cameras when having lightning on house

makes sense, let be step back a bit, what is the purpose of the knee high camera to the lower left?

Tips and tricks for cameras when having lightning on house

Agreed. I plan to order a shelly 1 for the rocker switch that is there now and implement it into a similar plan that can adjust accordingly with the rising/setting sun and adjust on its own. Color there is key. While I will likely never get to the point of 11 cameras at the front of the...

Tips and tricks for cameras when having lightning on house

not to take over this thread, but to add another thought to lighting and color vs IR/BW. The one relies solely on light being present, which is fine, but what is the trade-off and thinking. Is IR/BW configured, tweaked and set to auto for those cases the light might get turned off? Setting...

Tips and tricks for cameras when having lightning on house

Looking at these pictures raises a new question about strategy. What is the ideal strategy, exterior light illuminating the yard or IR. I ask because I noticed my IR video is quite crap at night, so I turned it off and it seemed as though the image actually improved. While still B/W, I saw...

Blue Iris on unRAID Windows VM - to cache or not to cache?

What do you consider the output, the saved video? Cache and the array are a waste for this. Instead, you are better served using an unassigned device. This keeps it independent of unraid. Otherwise, your protected pool and parity will go crazy always spinning up disks and your cache disk...

screwed up my installation a little

I love this place. While I continue to play and wait for my BI machine to arrive, I continue to look and wonder what is next is my surveillance journey. And while I tell myself the next cameras will be at the garage door, I may first replace the one at the front door. Pondering this guy...

excellent. I was not aware that you can target drives per camera. That's great info and makes more sense for getting the one with 2 drive bays.

true. OK last question. HDD. I know we can go 4, 6, 8, 10, 12TB etc. In this case, what is common practice? A single large drive or multiple drives spanned together for an even larger disk pool? Looking at 2 machines, one has 1 3.5 drive space and the other has 2, trying to decide if I...

I know there has been some memory discussions, but would 16gb memory benefit a smaller system over 8gb? Smaller being 10 cameras?

    Ezviz doorbell and transformer

I do. I did end up getting a 16/30 one. I was looking and as it was a common one for Ring, and mentioned in the above thread, I ordered it and tried. Installed and everything is working so far.

Agreed, that's what I have, 5442 and in some testing, with camera in the basement, vbr was crap. Switched back to cbr and things immediately cleared up. Curious, off topic, but you mention 2mp cameras. Where do these have a place when going against something like the 5442. Is it a cost thing...

    ready to buy

Perhaps. I know simply looking at live view with vbr the image is pretty bad/disappointing, so CBR it is. I am sure i will figure it out as I go and make the tweaks where necessary. I tell my neighbors their blink systems are meh, so yeah, just want to do it right.
