    Need to change switches

@Chase - had to look up when I ordered it - end of October 2017. It wasn't always a dedicated camera switch as my network has been completely redone since then (CAT6 installed, get rid of wireless extenders and Ethernet over Powerline adapters, increased ISP from 60 down up to full Gig, got rid...

    Need to change switches

@bp2008 - very true. Given what I do for a living, I tend to cost effectively over build a bit for "what if" scenarios, such as a failed switch or a bad port. One is none, two is one type thinking. Of course, this depends on many factors such as use and location (home, work, cabin, etc). I have...

    Need to change switches

I have BV Tech switch that is very similar to the IPCamPower switch that you posted. It's been solid. The benefit of having two is that if one fails, you can at least move the most important cameras around and keep recording. It looks like you have the space.

    Reuse existing coax?

I have used many Ethernet over COAX with POE devices from Axis and another company (I think it was BlackBox IIRC) and never had an issue. Very useful for elevators and pole mounted parking lot cameras. You'd have to weigh the cost/benefit to see if it is worth it over pulling CAT6.

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

No, the current RCA doorbell is RTSP only. HIK Visions iVMS-4200 software is able to see it though so maybe the NVR can as well.

Life of CPU if 24/7 recording with Blue Iris

@fenderman - In my case, I have a several thousand machines spread across the country that run 24/7. Hard drive, power supply, and motherboard are the majority of failures that we see. Randomly we will see bad RAM sticks. Have never seen a CPU fail. These are machines that run Wonderware (an...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Thanks for the tip! Sure enough, if I set the app to Ultra HD instead of HD, the stream to BI continues to work when I connect via the app. Just tested via a doorbell initiated connection as well....it works!!! BI didn't drop the feed. Can't wait to test more tomorrow!! I owe you a cold...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Huh. I was thinking about it last night but didn't post about it, but does the RTSP feed work in VLC or via the phone app? How is the WiFi signal? I didn't have to do much to establish the connection. Although I started out with using the generic RTSP. Dumb question, but you are using the...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

For the model, select DS-2CDxxxx RTSP. Only put your IP address in the address box. Under path enter /streaming/channels/101/ These are my settings. Do me a favor though, once you get the camera working, try connecting to it via the app and see if the recording in BI continues. Same with if you...

Blue Iris 4 to 5 Migration Guide

I'm with @fenderman. If you're complaining about issues after the initial release of a major upgrade, either you are not cut out to be an early adopter or are using the wrong platform. I have never had a major release upgrade for anything go perfectly. That's why you plan, implement, test, and...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Once you get it setup to work with your phone, you will be able to update it via the app. It was a pretty easy process.

    Blue Iris for Educational facilities?

Wow.....in 2004 Pelco, Bosch, Integral, Vicon, and others had DVRs available. That would have been one of the last years that you could get time lapse VCRs. Pelco dropped support for VCRs entirely not long after that (wouldn't even repair them). Sure, a 16 channel DVR would have cost more, but...

    Blue Iris for Educational facilities?

I second what Fenderman said. You really need an Enterprise solution such as Avigilon, Genetec, or Milestone (among others). I mention those three in particular because I have implemented and integrated them into situations such as yours and even larger with great success. Blue Iris just isn't...

Blue Iris 4 to 5 Migration Guide

Good post. I was going to make a post about the web server. One thing, don't change the web server folder from 4 to 5. I get an error if I do so on my client machines. Keeping it at 4 allows it to work as normal. A fresh install might prevent this this issue, but I haven't tried that. Also...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I am using the Heath Zenith SL-125 transformer you referred to on the bench right now. I've had no problems with it. I do not have a bell yet.....still on the hunt. Update 6/10 - I installed it and it keeps working fine. Still no ding dong box yet. Haven't noticed as I'm the only one that has...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I received an RCA branded model yesterday and had time today to throw it on the bench to start configuring and testing it. It was a rather simple startup and had the device online and "talking" to the app on my phone quickly. Then it was time to integrate it into Blue Iris. I read through all 22...

Where would one typically place cameras for a standard raised ranch?

On the last camera in the back on the far right, I would opt for position 1 to keep from having the light over rule the shot. I would angle it so that the approach was on one edge of the shot and down enough to catch more of that first floor man door, If you put the camera of the the opposite...

Where would one typically place cameras for a standard raised ranch?

I'm going to politely call BS on this statement as recording private property can become a civil issue very quickly. But that's not the point of the thread so no need to argue the minutia.

Where would one typically place cameras for a standard raised ranch?

Myself, I like "cross washes". Basically, two cameras in front and two in the back covering a wide angle view of all entry points, paths of entry, and yards. One in each corner. This would be a basic and minimum setup. I would then add cameras to provide closer in shots to help with...

Where would one typically place cameras for a standard raised ranch?

A layout like that can be problematic. Given that you have three cameras now, I'd suggest the following - 1 - get a shot of the front door with a decent sweep of the front yard. That that wish to do you harm will rarely risk a street facing break in. But they will approach the front first and...

Analog input to force BI to record

So i'm on the hunt for for an alarm inducing recording method. My situation is that I have a safe with NC alarm contacts on it. I want to install a camera inside of it that will record when the contacts are opened (am also going to add a second camera with a 15 sec or so pre and 30 sec post...

    BI Settings

Very true. That is the proper and best way to go. The only reason I suggested taking notes is due to my experience integrating different cameras into BI (most notably Samsung Smart Cams). Having a quick reference of IPs, username/password, ports, path, etc. has been invaluable after a crash or...

    BI Settings

Indeed, the config settings reside in the registry. It's been awhile, but I have used freeware to obtain Microsoft keys and other registry files off of drives that have failed boot sectors. Some were Windows based programs while others were Linux based bootable thumb drives and CDs. It's not...

I broke BI !!?! camera stop working

Out of curiosity, did you check your registry and verify that you do not have two entries with the same name? This issue wrecked havoc on me after I deleted a camera, physically changed the camera out, and added the new one in BI with the same name. For whatever reason, the BI software deleted...
