Stepping from analog into IP cam world

My recommendation: Front door - 16x9 aspect (either 2, 4 or 8MP) - 2.8mm lens - some aluminium sticky back foil on the inside of the lantern glass pane nearest the camera to reduce glare. Mini-dome or anti-vandal dome camera. Back Yard, consider a 4x3 aspect (3 or 5MP) - 4mm lens. Turret...

Anyone using Hi-PoE with their DS-2DF8236I-AEL?

I can't buy one from any of my suppliers for the ebay price - its probably a knock-off. To be fair, there's nothing much to most PoE injectors so their not a difficult item to copy.

Recommended power supply for setup purposes?

12v DC supplies are pretty much the most common type, just check the output on any spares you have floating around.

CCTV or the TV at fault?

1920x1080 on this recorder will be the same as 1080p so that should be fine. Do HDMI converters work with a standard patch cable? - you really need to check the converters are okay, if they are that leaves the ethernet cable itself, depending who put it in there could be a fault with it -...

Likely your Ethernet convertor is the issue - very hit & miss those things, what model is it?

    Image Sensor

Don't know about 'tricking', more like different teams working on each line of products and they guys that put the spec sheet together just used different information. I wouldn't be suprised if all the Turbo stuff is based on 1/3" sensors same as everything else.

    Image Sensor

They’re different measurement terms. The first means that it’s a sensor divided into 2 million receptors to give you a 2mp image - basically telling you nothing useful. The 2nd means the size of the sensor - generally bigger the better for night vision but you'll find most are around 1/3"...

    Night recording - somewhat blurry

In my experience 4MP Hiks have always had a soft image - your 2142 is a dome type meaning that the outer most lens cover is plastic which will never provide as sharp an image as a glass fronted bullet or turret, these cameras are best suited for close range, that said keep the dome clean and...

    DS-2CD2135FWD-I vs DS-2CD2155FWD-I

Saw your post on that, not that I have an "i'm alright jack" attitude to it but it wouldn't affect the majority of my cameras, I'd avoid high frame rates on cameras not working to cature fast moving objects or scenes - just a waste of bandwidth and storage space.

    DS-2CD2135FWD-I vs DS-2CD2155FWD-I

At low level 16x9 will normally be preferable unless you have nearby obstructing objects that make the extra width less useful. At height 4x3 may be more useful as with correct lens selection you can reduce the blind spot under the camera. Another way to look at it is you can save on bitrate and...

    DS-2CD2135FWD-I vs DS-2CD2155FWD-I

2 & 3mp will be the same - Hik just crops the same sensor to give the different aspect ratio - same with the 5 & 8mp saves running too many production lines with different image sensor components - exactly the same lux rating exactly the same night performance. I did experiments with the old 2 &...

    DS-2CD2135FWD-I vs DS-2CD2155FWD-I

Don't get hung up on the term 'Darkfighter' it’s just marketing, Hik also use the term 'Darkfighter lite' for a lot of these cheaper cameras. If your yard is well lit with reliable floodlighting then consider the higher MP cameras. General rule, bullets give a better picture over longer ranges...

CCTV or the TV at fault?

So are you saying that if you set th DVR to output 4K the TV flickers on and off so your forced to use 720p instead? Tried another HDMI cable?

    DS-2CD2125FWD-I v DS-2CD2185FWD-I

Big chance you'll be taking buying from a china seller, delivery time, no real warranty, firmware issues. I had a 8MP turret develop a fault after 2hrs on the test bench, just got it switched out buy the UK supplier who just next day delivered and recoverd dead unit at their cost. They also...

Stepping from analog into IP cam world

Hiding your recorder regardless of it being a PC or NVR is a good call - I noramally fit them in the loft but there are some under floor boards. Just don't have it on display, if you have a break in its going in the back of their van along with your PC, TV and anything else they take. If you...

    DS-2CD2125FWD-I v DS-2CD2185FWD-I

Sounds like it, fitted a Dahua system a couple of years back and really hated the playback controls. Had other Dahua customers tell me the same about playback at the recorder so I'm not the only one, Hik is more intuitive which helps me as I do a lot of onsite support for customers after incidents.

    DS-2CD2125FWD-I v DS-2CD2185FWD-I

I like the quality of Dahua cameras I just find playback via their recorder a complete pain - you need laser accuracy with the mouse otherwise it does nothing.

    DS-2CD2125FWD-I v DS-2CD2185FWD-I

Your not really going to see spiders building more webs on the TVI eyeball camera then on the IP turret, real life they will spin a web a few inches infront of either between the soffit and the wall - rain/sun visor on a bullet on the otherhand you'll have all sorts living in there. There's...

    DS-2CD2125FWD-I v DS-2CD2185FWD-I

Well for now I certainly wouldn’t sell Hikvision ‘easy IP3.0’ camera’s on the analytics, face detection is a mess and each camera only supports 1 smart event detection for line crossing and intrusion, the image quality while great on a still scene is prone to more motion blur then a Hik TVI. The...

DS-2CD2335FWD-I - Hikvision Ultra Low Light 3M camera

i'm sure you mean 264+ with the 4mp cameras? Hiks (+) encoding does not work well with fast moving scenes, they do discourage its use - i've however found that its best to avoid it altogher as many of the Hik recorders can't playback properly - time indexing can be off or playback freezes.

    Mini outdoor PTZ : DS-2DE4A220IW-DE

Indeed, figured hik simply forgot to add it to the list or there isn't much in the way of changes for the A220IW - since there are a bunch of other's built on the same chassis figured it was worth a pop.

    Face detection option missing

@ DGWASW - in no way pointing the finger at you my friend, your contribution to this thread has been valuable. The camera failed because it was faulty, simple as that - factory reset a few times - no output from the DSP despite the web gui working. Before it died i noted that it was very warm to...
