Noob Question on the wiring of ip camera plastic shield(?)

Yes, a real head scratcher until you realize that the Ethernet cable must be fed through the shield before terminating with the RJ45. Also, make sure that you put the rubber grommet on before terminating. The rubber washer goes on the female terminated end of the camera. Slide cable through...

Keep those cameras of the 'net!

Thanks, but no thanks. That may help others, but I'm not looking for nor want a solution to use my printer's WiFi capabilities. A USB cable is all I need.

Keep those cameras of the 'net!

Getting back to the IoT, most of my friends & family are technology dummies. And, in my opinion, they are too lazy to change default passwords let alone configure the security features of their devices. Even if they change passwords, they'll use the same ones that are easily guessed. I am also...

Keep those cameras of the 'net!

Internet hacking is one of the reasons I don't allow my so-called "Smart TVs" or other "smart" devices to access my router (except my cellphone & laptop). I'm still trying to figure out why people need such things as WiFi capable "Smart" refrigerators or "Smart" thermostats. I recently bought...

    Coyotes on the Hunt

Me Too  I thought I saw a coyote around my home, which is in a metropolitan area. After some research, I've concluded it was a young fox. What threw me was the tan coat of the animal, which is normally how young foxes look before their coat turns red. I learned that if it has black...

    Hikvision NVR 7608NI-I2-8P Reboot

I don't mean to butt-in, but the 1st link has release notes for build 160926, yet the firmware is only for 161008. In other words, there is no release notes for 161008. This implies there is an error with the mix-matched release notes and firmware, and thus 161008 may not be for the I-Series. I...

Poor brightness and unable to change or save

Try cleaning the dome cover, inside and out. I had a similar problem with a DS-2CD2732F-I as well. Over time, the image brightness became flat and dull, especially at night. The dome was mounted in the kitchen near the the stove. It turned out that a thin layer of dirt & grease had built up on...

Image goes black and fades up again?

Is this occurring during night time only? It sounds like it's flipping back and forth between day mode and night vision mode. Are you talking about the app password or the NVR password? They are not the same thing. if you're installing the iVMS-4500 app, then you can give the app any password you want. That just lets you use the app. It does not have to be the password of the NVR. Note: You can access multiple NVR's...

    DS-7608NI-I2 (V3.3.7 build 151102) not sending e-mails

The NVR GUI has the test button. The Web GUI does not. There is a difference between the GUI's. I assume that you have a monitor and mouse connected directly to the NVR. This gives you access to the NVR GUI. I have V3.4.62 not V3.4.6. Each version of the NVR GUI had a test button.
