I suppose that's all very well if you get the first shot & make it count If not, you've just provided a nice target for someone to aim at Thankfully, I don't shoot at anything that's gonna shoot back :)

Thoroughly agree - my competition pistol was a Hi-Standard Victor with full rib sighting - won many a competition with it And your latter point is why, despite being 6'4", I switched from 12-bore to 20-bore Less recoil, lighter, faster & much more sporting ....... unless you're a pheasant...

When we practiced with police firearms units they were trained to use a torch (flash light) held in their 'weak' hand with their arm held out to one side The theory was that if someone returns fire at night / in darkness, they'll aim at the light ..... with you standing behind it ! Whereas...

    Presidential State Visit

To anyone in th US. Ignore anything you see on the news about protests for President Trumps visit to the UK. As our longest standing Allie & with strong ties between our 2 nations the majority of British people are proud to be the host nation in honouring your President on his state visit.

Nice list, but if you're looking for a personal defense firearm I would stay away from all self loading pistols Though not American, I used to compete at National level when such firearms were permitted here in the UK For absolute accuracy & ease of use, nothing beats a quality revolver -...

The Mossberg 500 is a lovely, time proven & reliable shotgun. Pretty sure I'd not want to fire one stockless with just a pistol grip though I sold mine many years ago when I took the decision to concentrate purely on 20 gauge - Game & clay pigeon shooter here

    Cheap eBay camera's

Hello all, Does anyone have any experience of the cheaper IP camera's available on eBay ? I have a requirement for an ancillary camera (or 3). The Uniview cams I have cost me £83 (about $105) each and they are great, but I've found a few generic bullet camera's for around £28 each ($35) Both...

    Upgrade to BI5

@TonyR - Quite correct - thank you for the courtesy of your reply, unlike the former answer Waiting until the dust settles is indeed now my plan - both on here & other user groups, BI5 appears to be somewhat 'buggy' with many reporting various issues & problems It's taken me a while to get...

    Upgrade to BI5

As a fairly recent new user to BI (v4) but sadly not eligible for free upgrade -- if i get v5 & a new key, can I transfer my copy of v4 (with my current existing key) to a different system ?

Off topic From the non-US perspective but as an avid firearm enthusiasts position : If you need to resort to using lethal force you're in a very bad position. Any sense of security you feel from having the weapon is false without knowing the abilities of your assailant/s & what weapons they...

Black (or any) paint on the lens is an obvious one - especially when mounting cams lower down, so as not to catch views of heads / hats The solution to this is having camera's overlooking one another. If to obscure one camera someone is caught on 1 or more other cams then they have gained...

    Object detection vs Motion Detection

Hello all, Which one do most people use - what is your preference & why ? Only asking as I'm getting a LOT of false alerts due to night-time prowling felines :) Thank you in advance for any contribution / reply

Nice cheap compact computer for low power NAS/NVR

Cost-wise it seems like a good buy, the only thing that would put me off is the AMD chip Having had AMD's in the past (twice) I'd only go for Intel-chipped devices Alos, I can find out very little about this device - at least with a cheap Dell or HP you know where you stand for spares /...

    Cat6 or Cat5

I went with Cat6 on my install as I've run it alongside rewiring (or rather correctly & neatly wiring :) ) my home network I went for a 16-port gigabit ethernet POE switch (8 port normal, 8 ports POE) linking not just the CCTV camera's & Blue Iris PC but also my regular desktop PC, smart TV...

Absolute Essentials - Inventory to start install

Hi Alan , To be honest I couldn't tell you - I got mine as a 'bulk' deal (100 Cat6 connectors, 100 strain relief boots, stripping tool, cable tester and crimp tool) from a 100% UK eBay seller But it works very well As a noob I can strip back around 1 1/2 inches of outer sheath, arrange my...

    Hi From England

Hi @Magma82 I also used Kenable for many bits & pieces (Cat6 keystone patch panel, to name but one) I went for everything being Cat6, rather than 5e, but then again it carries my entire home network including CCTV & my main ISP Can help with drilling if you need it depending where in...
