Blue Iris CPU options - Dell Optiplex i5-6600 or i7-7700 or i5-8500? Recommendations?

I just built my first BI machine. Based on the suggestions, i went with an used i5-8600. I have to agree it's a quiet and capable machine with just enough expansion slots. Also, you can install free windows 11 yourself even if no O/S is loaded.

Agreed, but it's quite overwhelming to use it as a new user. So many settings to configure and can't tell which are the essentials vs bells and whistles.

Another Blue Iris Recording Setting Questions

This makes sense, i'm still learning about setting everything up (Blue Iris pc, dual NICs, VPN, POE switch and etc) correctly, thanks. It's a lot to learn and digest compared to the NVR that I had previously:)

I only have 4TB HDD space. I have only 4 cameras now but might expand to 8 max. May be something that I'm missing..... When I was running the LaView NVR, I think i was able to have continous recordings for 10+ days and the old HDD was 3TB. I'm hoping to do the same in blue iris.

New to blue iris. If I want to do continuous recording on blue iris and delete the recordings after every 14 days, is this the correct setting? Or there are other settings that I have to configure? Thanks.

    Improve UI3 Loading Speed?

Thanks for showing me where this is at. It's overwhelming when you first use Blue Iris with so many settings available compared to NVR.

    Improve UI3 Loading Speed?

I'm using my cellphone for this. How to check speed over VPN? If I run speedtest, that will be the speed of the carrier network, right? Not aware of the lower bandwith profile in UI3.

"I want 2.8mm cameras everywhere to see everything..." - This is why you need specific FOVs with purposeful focal lengths.

I'm in the process of selecting new cameras. Is it a good idea to get T5442T-ZE if i can't decide on 2.8 or 3.6mm lens? Also, by mounting camara lower (<8 ft), does it increase the risk of it getting vandalized?

    Improve UI3 Loading Speed?

Ok, took me a while to find where this option is at. It's unchecked, should I check it?

    Improve UI3 Loading Speed?

I'm still new to using Blue Iris. I view my cameras via VPN connection. Somehow, I noticed the UI3 is slow to load the views of the cameras (only 4), same as when I switch among the cameras. Is this normal or anything else I can do the improve the experience? Will it load faster in the blue Iris...

Thanks for your help as well.

Connecting Issue to OpenVPN set up on ASUS RT-AX86U

The issue is resolved. I transferred the config file to my phone directly via usb. I was able to see the Asus system log and identified the error, saying the port was used somewhere, which is strange, but anyway I changed to a random number and it connects.

Connecting Issue to OpenVPN set up on ASUS RT-AX86U

Well, I gave up with this option. I found the zero tier and decided to give it a try, so far it's working. Any of the downside using zero tier vs hosting my own VPN server?
