    Semi Professional Installs

Are you charging friend prices or trying to make a few $$. Agree you likely have to be licensed but I did a few jobs for "friends" at restaurants and houses, I charged the cost of equipment plus 15% for random stuff (wire, connectors, drill bits, ext...) then came up with a per camera price...

Analysis paralysis: low voltage cables through drywall

I like the sphincter plates personally. The brush plates tend to look a little nicer but once they are full of wire, it doesn't really matter. I use the brush plates when I'm hanging a tv but when I have to run multiple cables, I use the sphincter plate; they look a little neater with multiple...

Questions about Hikvision NVR & Cameras

I don't think you will notice any issues unless you are recording all 4 continuously with a higher fps and quality. I plan on setting my switch up this weekend so we'll see

    POE Suggestion

Just got it in today and hooked up a few spare cameras up to bench test it. @nayr, what is the process for accessing the cameras in the nvr? I am running a lts8716-p16 and have the switch plugged into one of the poe ports on the nvr. The nvr automatically added the first camera I plugged into...

Questions about Hikvision NVR & Cameras

Good news! I don't think you can use PnP with the cameras since they will be added from a switch. I am having a very similar problem where I am only able to run one wire into my garage. @nayr recommended a POE splitter which uses an 802.3at input and outputs 4 802.af ports. Basically, its a POE...

    POE Suggestion

Just looking for any suggestions for a 4 port poe switch. Here's the catch: is going to be in my unfinished garage which gets pretty cold in the winter and pretty warm/humid in the summer. Basically, the way my house is laid out, the only way to run cable to my garage is through a small...

    No emails after VPN

That's how I understood a VPN as well. Another thing I did is hook up my vista 20p to an alarm output; the alarm shows a fault when an event is triggered (no alarm condition) so I know the NVR is getting the line crossing, just no email. I guess the coincidence is just that. Ill play around...

    No emails after VPN

So I just finally got my VPN set up and now I don't get any email alerts. The weird thing is if I send a test email from the nvr, it's sucessful (with vpn and without vpn). Any ideas?

Questions about Hikvision NVR & Cameras

If you already don't have cable in place, go for cat6..personal preference so you don't have to upgrade cable in 5 years. I understand it can be tough running cable; I have been running wire for a while now and though it may not be easy, there is always a way. You could also try for a wireless...

Questions about Hikvision NVR & Cameras

    1) If you want 8 cameras, don't get an 8 camera NVR, get a 16. You will have all 8 cameras up and running, realize you need a 9th and then have to get a whole new NVR. 2) I personally do not have experience with the powerline adapters however several members of the forum use them with no issues...

    1 gang box mount options

Get a new faceplate for the gang box if you need it. Drill a hole just big enough to fit the wire through the connector, mount the camera, and hit it with silicone. Done.

    System Recommendation

Most of the systems you are going to come across on this forum and most of the recommendations that people will give you are going to be POE based IP cameras. How many cameras do you want? As far as ease of instillation, wired ethernet may not be the easiest to set-up without experience. If you...
