I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but could not find any previous posts here. Security industry white-papers and professional installers both make their cases for either CBR or VBR to record video files.
So storage space and bandwidth aside, I am interested to hear your thoughts...
Dahua cameras with defog capabilities have this function set off as the default.
With cameras that support this feature, are there any known disadvantages / compromises should the defog be active?
Hikvision and Dahua are more mid-tier when it comes to surveillance, they have great products for the price vs quality and are suitable for both residential security as well as for small, medium and large business security / project requirements. But they cannot compete with premium, upper tier...
Thanks bigred, that's disappointing on the 3231's - that is more like highlight masking as opposed to highlight compensation. Will see what I can do with the exposure and gain settings.
That's exactly what I would like it to do. I've tried adjusting the HLC setting either up or down, the bright areas are still blacked out, but either get just bigger or smaller.
This is the camera I am using: https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/6301
I don't think I can update...
I have noticed with HLC on, super bright areas or light sources in the scene get blacked out (for example car headlights that are blacked out), however I have seen footage where HLC does not do this, it simply dims the light source in the scene. Is this possible to adjust to achieve this?

I am starting to pick up video signal issues (loss of signal, ground loop looking interference such as rolling lines etc) due to some of the cables that run under ground in conduit most...
Thanks Bigredfish, might as well keep the slow shutter off then. Also use the the "standard scene 1" setting and on some cams use the "low light scene" setting - low light scene is excellent especially in the evening, but find it produces more motion blur during the day.
BTW, excellent night...
What version of Windows Media Player are you using? Windows Media Player 11 and early versions do not support MP4 by default unless you install the CODECS, you can download and install the CODECS here: Windows | Official Site for Microsoft Windows 10 Home & Pro OS, laptops, PCs, tablets & more...
Hi Dave, you can use Dahua's SmartPSS software to export your recorded DAV video format files to whichever format you prefer; AVI, MP4 etc. Here is how you do it... https://dahuawiki.com/SmartPSS/Backup
Hi, I have a couple of the Dahua Ultra Series HAC-HFW3231E-Z cameras. In the camera's OSD's "Main Menu" under "Exposure" there are the following menu items:
Exposure Mode. I have set it to "Auto" and then turned "Low motion blur" on (this should in fact increase the shutter speed if I am not...
