Recognition, License Plate Reading aka AI

Usually, LPR cameras are bullet or box format to better accommodate the lensing and IR illuminators to optimize capture/recognition performance. There might be some that are bullets, that I don't know.

Recognition, License Plate Reading aka AI

Facial recognition is somewhat similar structurally. In practice, there are 2 parts - capturing a face and then recognizing a face. Some cameras can capture a face (i.e., 'know' and mark where a face is), a smaller number can actually capture and recognize a face (i.e., attempt to match a...

Recognition, License Plate Reading aka AI

For license plates, there are 2 fundamental elements: - the ability to capture the license plates, that is to see the characters clearly in various conditions, dark, headlights, angles, etc. (i.e. a human can now see the plate's characters is ABC-123) - the ability to recognize what all the...

    New ColorVu cameras

The default shutter speed for ColorVu is 1/12s. Can you check if that is what you are using? You can see blur in the second video Do you have a lux meter to check the exact light levels? You say 'complete darkness' and I am sure it's dark but for cameras, it makes a difference if it is 0.2...

Can you elaborate on that? What is the 'cheap slow way'? How did it destroy retail even in China?

Dahua DORI vs real world ?

DORI is an antiquated concept and rarely used professionally these days. I'd just ignore it.

Dahua DORI vs real world ?

If I am reading Dahua's spec sheet for that camera correctly, their 'identify' level maps out to ~65ppf which will, in good lighting conditions, allow identifying a person. If you understand PPF, and you do, it is probably clearer/easier to communicate using the PPF number you desire rather...

    Is this Peak IP Camera?

Good question. Product improvement is shifting currently to video analytics and cloud management. There is only so much value in increasing resolution for most cameras so manufacturers are shifting to compete on software (AI, VSaaS). Agreed about product pricing being steady or rising, part of...

US Government Ban of Dahua, Hikvision, Huawei Takes Effect Now

Tariffs might become an issue for the DIY/Home markets but the (separate) ban effect is really focused at government and those users that get funding from the government. DIY/Home is quite far from those areas. There might be some sort of worse case scenario where the impact of the ban and...

US Government Ban of Dahua, Hikvision, Huawei Takes Effect Now

The 'news' is (1) that it has officially 'taken effect'. When it was passed last year there was a year before it went 'live' and there was hope among Hikvision partners that this would be reversed beforehand. (2) The rules that were released include 'essential components' of equipment, which...

I don't, we did not check loading or using Dahua firmware on Amcrest cameras.

    Amcrest IP2M-841 firmware going backwards?

We had the same question when we examined this last week. Interestingly, the Dahua patched firmware is 2.622.0000000.7.R but the Amcrest patched one is V2.420.AC00.18.R. Certainly, any company can choose any method for how it increments/enumerates firmware but what Amcrest did here is strange.

    camera spreadsheet

We (IPVM) have aCamera Finder that might help. It's freemium, part of the results are members only, part is public. It might help for scanning through different options. We do keep it up to date and we add cameras daily for both that and our Camera Calculator.

    Dahua Audio Wiretapping vulnerability

Btw, Dahua recommended, both on the advisory and in a message to us, to use their 'cloud upgrade' service, i.e., one's Dahua devices phone home to Dahua over the Internet and Dahua pushes down new firmware. Would you be more likely to trust or use that?
