Ran 3 Cat6 cables... what a PIA!
As the title says, finally got down to running the cables. It was a big PIA... no help, managed somehow with a wifi endoscope. Endoscope helped in routing the snake a good deal but in the end, drywall near the ceiling had to be cut to help route the wires. Originally tried to hire a well... -

This looks like ceiling mounted, would it be possible to mount this camera vertically? Similar to motion detecting flood lamps... I would like to mount this above garage doors on exterior wall so one would look towards driveway and the other towards the backyard... Saves me the trouble of... -

Much of what you said above is very true. It is a sin to expect quality in anything nowadays. Starting with very poor manufacturing, and assembly done without any care or attention to detail, no wonder it is a surprise if it works at all. -

Yeah, ok.. that would work as well. My thought was to just put a connector in the back of PC to add in the aux power which functions as ups. If it is not required, simply unplug and it is regular pc with it's own psu. -

What would be better: Since, Computer power supply only provides 12v, 5v and maybe 3.3 or 3.2v based on newer low power logic. LCD monitors are also same, 5V for display and maybe 12v for backlight and audio(if any). So, wouldn't it be better to just use DC-DC converters to get 5v and 3.3v... -

Brass sponge or what looks like brass wool (coarse). Got it as part of solder kit and couldn't believe I never used it. Threw too many Weller tips (back in the day) which now I understand could've been reconditioned using this... those tips are not cheap either... -

My Weller has been working perfectly fine for me as well. I don't use it extensively but when small projects come up, it is the go-to iron. In industrial setting, these things are on for 12hrs a day and keep working so, not sure if others got a bad unit... I leave temp around max 680 or less... -

It seems like these UPS systems failures are quite prevalent. Google shows many results for similar issues. If the power line has to be conditioned for UPS, then that is just messed up. It's in the name UPS. In my book, power loss is not the only interruption. The UPS should handle line... -

This is what I intend to do. Last question, I see that Cyberpower sell a network card for power mgmt., is this the way you guys are achieving auto shutdown during power loss OR USB etc.? Old days, RS-232 was used with a resident app... that should tell you a bit when my last exposure to UPS... -

Another NVR vs BI question
I understand that but what I was saying is that holding power switch (without power button functions specified) will shut the system down after few seconds and that's a hard shutdown very much like a sudden power outage by not giving the system a chance to shutdown normally. -

Enabling recording on sd cards...
Got 128gb sd cards in two Ipc-hdw5231r-ze cameras and when I check on cam's web page, it shows 0/122gb etc., how to enable continuous recording in camera? I was able to format but it stays the same. Does in camera motion detection need to be enabled for it to record? -

Just to get some input on this, if the PC let's say running Win10, shuts down unexpectedly as in power loss, wouldn't the OS go through some disk/file checks before booting? And, (I am not fully versed with/in Win10) in that event, it could probably delay unless a user prompt is waiting for... -

Is there a way you can load test those batteries? You could take it over to Autozone etc., and see if they would hook up their load tester. OTH, you can (assuming it is two 12v batteries in series) hook up a 12v headlight (halogen type) to one battery at a time and see how long it runs and... -

I could only guess but usually, cheaper (as most of them are made nowadays) capacitors start to leak internally as they age. The windings enamel may give up but that's usually the last. Solid state should last if operating under parameters (again, quality).. -

I am looking at the software part now and wondering about the quick-sync requirement for BI. Is this to help in decode/playback? Thought is that if direct to disk recording is enabled, the stream is not processed or encoded so, what's the role of quick-sync during recording? -

This maybe a simple or complicated fix. From the incident you described, it could be n number of things. First thing I'd try is to get a known, working battery. Just read 24v (edit) get couple car batteries fully charged and hook it up and see if the behavior is same. That's where I would start. -

You could access the Web Login and do a "factory /defaults / reset"... But remember, IP will change. If you are going to reset this way, try the one without resetting the IP first... and if that doesn't work, do the full factory reset.- myipcam
