No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

The thing is, the NVR, is in one building, the POE switch and cameras plugged into the POE switch are in another building with a busy driveway and parking lot in between both buildings so pulling cameras and POE switch to bench test would be a quite a feat. Plus it just broke 100 degrees here in...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

The installation guide says the cable should be no more than 328' max for cat5e cable.. Are they talking about from router to switch or from switch to cameras? I still have no lights at the switch or router after plugging in the cat6 cable and that cable isn't more than 250'. The longest cable...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

New day and now I have blinking lights on the router but no lights on the switch where the router cable is plugged in to. I have lights on the other switch ports cameras are plugged in to but still no video. And now when I do a device search it finds one IP address 239.255.42.42 but no video on...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

Now here's another dumb question. After doing a device search and adding the cameras, do the cameras show up on the NVR monitor or the computer monitor?

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

I used the command prompt, typed in ipconfig and I think it brought up like 198.168.0.153 or something like that then I used the ping command with a new IP address of 198.168.0.154 the pinged it again for 155, 156, 157 and I assumed those we my new camera IPs. Then I added them to the NVR but...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

Thank you for the link, it's very informative. UPDATE > After toning out cables to find their correct locations I checked them with my cheap rj45 tester, link below, and at first I may get a short so I'd test it again and then I'd get an open and then maybe it would test ok. I went through this...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

Makes perfect sense. Not really, lol but I will unplug the cameras on the switch, reset the switch then plug the cameras back in one by one. I already have IP addresses for the 4 cameras so I'm good there, I just need to find out where in my NVR software they go. Like I said the video I watched...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

I did not add the IP addresses one by one simply because the switch is located upstairs in an attic and the NVR and router are in a different building so plugging all the cameras into the switch first seemed like the best way to go.

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

All the cameras are mounted 2 story's up so bench testing, even though it's a great idea, is not going to happen. It may be something simple like having the POE switch plugged into the NVR instead of the router, I won't know until I tone out the cables. I watched a video on finding IP addresses...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

I took the advice you gave in my other thread but it didn't work so I hooked up the original switch again with the uplink port and still nothing. I've ruled out using a crossover cable so I must have a cable crossed somewhere. The thing is, these cables are ran in an attic, under 2 story eaves...

No Uplink Port on POE Switch? Huh?

Originally I bought a 5 port POE switch that put out 55 watts, link below, it has 4 normal ports and a uplink port. Someone convinced me that this switch was not powerful enough to power 4 of my cameras. So I reluctantly bought an 8 port POE switch that has 123 watts, link below, but I didn't...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

I plugged the ethernet cable into port 8 of the POE switch, link below, and the other end of the cable into the router, still no video. What am I missing here? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07788WK5V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

Well see, this is exactly why this forum rocks. Not so technical people like myself can get technical questions answered by honest members. I was a Special Systems tech (commercial, security, fire, access control, CCTV & life safety systems installation) for ATT Integrated Technologies...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

I read it on some website some where. It said switch to router connection required a crossover cable and everything else was straight through cable. I've heard of crossover cables before so I assumed the site was legit but I'm kinda new to the whole networking thing. This forum has definitely...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

Thats what I thought I was just confused on why one switch would have a dedicated uplink port but the other one didnt. I'm only connecting 4 cameras to the new 8 port switch which gives me a total of 5 ethernet cables to pull underground. I read online that the cable connected to the router and...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

This may be a really stupid question but the original 5 port switch I bought has one uplink port and four powered ports, the new eight port switch does not have an uplink port, all eight ports are powered ports. If I'm not using a wireless router how does the new switch communicate with the...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

I should have joined this forum before buying the system, lol. And thank you for the camera spec sheet, I couldn't find it but I'm second guessing myself again about the switch, the amazon link I posted above I don't think is powerful enough so I'm going with this one, link below, or is it...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

Wow, you nailed it. Thank you! Finally makes since but for some reason I can't find the wattage rating on my cameras, link below to my Lorex system. I'm thinking my switch is probably useless for my configuration. Many cheaper brands of switches on amazon claim high wattage but I compare them...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

I do have 110vac in the attic for the 4 port gigabit switch. I have 4 cameras plugged into it and the uplink cable running underground to the NVR. I havent powered the system up yet due to me not knowing if I have the correct switch, (ethernet, POE or gigabit)? I have a BV-Tech 5 Port PoE+...

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

No, no power at the pipe. The gigabit switch is in the attic and its about 50' to the pipe and an additional 75' to the NVR. Will the gigabit switch work or do I need a POE switch?

Ethernet, POE, Gigabit Switch, Which One Do I Need?

I'm thoroughly confused! on installing my 16 ch NVR system. II need to run 8 ethernet cables underground but the pipe diameter is to small to pull all 8 cables through. I was told I needed a 4 port Gigabit switch to reduce the number of cables going into the pipe from 8 cables to 5 cables, that...

    Swann NHD-865MSB POE Connector Pinout?

Water had gotten into the RJ45 connector on my Swann NHD-865MSB POE camera and corroded the pins. The only way to keep using the camera was to cut off the RJ45 connector and hardwire the camera straight to the ethernet cable. Follow me so far? My issue is not knowing what color wires from the...
