Btw, for the anti aliasing, this seems to be an artifact of SmartPSS and NOT the camera. I think SmartPSS is scaling the live stream in a way that makes the AA look really bad. If I open the DAV or jpeg files, they look fine.

@EMPIRETECANDY what I'd give if these cameras could have an option to write out mp4 files instead of dav files :)

I'm on the latest linked above... it's now completely dark outside and this cam is staying full color, simply amazing! Looking very good! I can't wait to see what the daytime view looks like tomorrow with the new firmware.

@Wildcat_1 where do I get the latest firmwar? I realized mine is the latest from the Dahua website, which was newer from when you tweaked the cam. I have V2.840.0000000.13.R, Build Date: 2022-01-10

I've moved this cam to the back of my house and upgraded the firmware. The anti aliasing is a little weird but overall seems to look pretty good. I'm going to test it out here for awhile and see how things go.

Thanks so much. I don’t use an nvr and they stutter when I use smart pss to view them with nothing else accessing it. I’m actively wanting a newer model so I’ll keep trying them as they come out.

    IPC-HDW5831R-ZE (2018) vs DH-IPC-HDW5842T-ZE-S2 (2021) - 2018 camera wins in image quality

It’s definitely not my network. My other 4k cams have no issue with stuttering. Even when plugged into the same cable. It’s a short run from the switch, which is a good switch with good cat 6 Ethernet. Even the color 4k cam looks worse than the 2018 for daytime images and video. The 2018 cam...

Note, both cams can be dialed in. But no matter the dialing, the 2021 will not look as smooth, as clear, and as realistic as the 2018 model. Then add in the stuttering of the 2021 and I'm convinced that the 2018 is a better general purpose camera compared to the 2021. The 2021 seems to win out...

I just opened another 2021 cam, connected it, set it side by side to a 2018 cam. You must look at them full screen, do not look at the smaller images here... open them up and flip between the two. At the smaller scale the 2021 looks great, but not so much when you full screen it. The 2018 has...

On the 2021, I started streaming on substream 2 at 1080p at with these settings... still very choppy ... Should I go lower? Here's the settings on my 2018 cam which streams fine... biggest difference is the FPS. I'll try lowering that on my 2021

These are at my main house... my other house have all 2018 models (the houses are VPN'ed together and I can view any of the 2018's without stutter from either house across the internet, but the 2021 stutters when viewing locally)

I have over a dozen cams of all types (all Dahua). This is the only cam I own that does this while live streaming. I'm really starting to think that for a general purpose, high quality cam, the IPC-HDW5831R-ZE (2018) cannot be beat with any other cam on the market less than $500. Of all the cams...

The video is so laggy and behind compared to my 2018 model. Any way to address this? It is constantly pausing and is a few seconds behind. I'm wondering if the camera is overloaded somehow. Update: It's only the live stream. The actual video recording is fine.

More updates... under these conditions the 2021 is a lot better in the dark areas. Something about the 2021 just isn't as clear though. I can't put my finger on it. It's easier to notice when looking at the live video. The 2018 looks like a very clear, from say, my iphone. The 2021 looks more...

Wildcat did wonders to get the 2021 to look good, but i sit here looking at both the 2018 and the 2021 and the quality of the 2018 is better. There’s soemthing not right with these 2021 cams. They probably took some cost savings approach with the hardware that wasn’t done on the 2018

I’m so sorry but I’m taking the 2021 cam down and putting the 2018 back up. The 2018 is better. I’ll put the 2021 in a less important place. Things are clear on the 2018. I can see better at night on the 2018. And it doesn’t need to be tweaked. The 2018 just works.
