Best iOS alternative to Hikvision's native app?

Corporate policy precludes installation of anything by Hikvision. I have some home cameras I want to view and I've been happy with the Hikvision app for viewing/playback. Can anybody recommend a good alternative? I do not use Blue Iris, and instead connect directly to the cams across local network.

New cam is losing knowledge of Micro SD every couple of days

I've a pretty new HIkvision running Firmware 5.6.2 (I think this is the newest). First installed a brand new, fast Samsung 128 GB MicroSD. Continuous record plus images on line cross. I get about 4 days of footage to fit on card. Around day 7 or so the camera lost knowledge of the card. Upon...

Are you concerned about Hikvision's trustworthiness?

Full disclosure: I've had a few hikvisions going for years. And I just bought another a week back. I like their feature set and price point. And I plan on buying another most likely, in the near future. Evidently a chunk of the company is owned by the Chinese government, and they also would...

How to manage older Hikvisions in modern browser? E.g. DS-2CD3332-I

I have a few of these turret cams running now for years on end. One is chinese but I did run a firmware update many years back. Two of them are the US rebrand bought from LTS Inc (CMIP1132). They've been amazing, but since I have no DVR or PC software I manage them through a browser. I have two...

Which camera for license plates @ 100'?

I've not been around here much last couple years because my 3MP Hikvisions are still killing it. Super happy with them. Yesterday a car not from the neighborhood passed a school bus while it was getting kids on it, and that does not fly in front of my house. Unfortunately without a plate I...

Cheap tablet to serve as permanent camera viewer

Just for fun, I'd like to have a tablet permanently on my shelf near the TV or in the kitchen that is constantly pulling images from my four cameras. I was thinking a $50 Amazon kindle fire might suffice. Do I have to worry about burn-in on these? I assume I would if I had a grid pattern up...

    RJ45 corroding connection

I moved one of my cams well after running some network cable. The cable was too short by a large amount, so I have it joined up with a cheap two-female RJ45 connector. It's under an eave, so never, ever gets direct rain. This has worked fine for several months, but recently the camera stopped...

How many cams do you have at your residence?

I have four at the moment, one in the baby room. When I "snuck" the third one onto the porch this weekend I got surprisingly little flak from my wife, but I dare not introduce a fourth at the moment, and really I'm running out of outdoor things to look at anyway, though I have an absolutely...

How to turn a regular light into a "spotlight"?

I have a bunch of typical outside lights attached to my house. I leave these on all the time by the garage. I have no motion detector light, nor desire to install one. The problem with these lights--like most lights--is that most of their light is completely wasted shooting at the ground, the...

Anybody successful getting a Hikvision to FTP images?

*UPDATE* After Much hemming and hawing I confirmed that in my case 5.1.2 is just terrible software for FTP. Does not work properly at all. 5.1.6 seems to work fine. ------------- I got my 5.1.2 turret working to an NFS (at least for now, fingers-crossed). One thing I'm thoroughly failing at is...

    Mostly a newb

After some neighborhood car break-ins several years ago I decided to set up a camera. I first bought a Foscam, as many do, and returned it within a few days, unhappy with its software and horrendous image quality. Bought a half decent 2 MP POE-enabled camera, set it up, and had it going for a...

    Hikvision software superior to Dahua...?

Until six months ago I had, for about a year, a Dahua 2 MP dome setup. The camera itself was nice; reliable, solid, good picture. My main points of complaint were its mobile apps were terrible (basically didn't work) and more to the point, since I don't have a PC with NVR and only a network FTP...
