    House install locations part deux

Hey Y'all. There are some updates to this build in the thread here - Help deciding on new install locations around house Anyway, I have a question about the talk back cam I plan on using. If I'm using it with Blue Iris will I be able to hear the recorded audio on the video playback? Can I do...

What do y’all think about the cable? Should I just run cat5e? I feel like cat6 would probably be overkill for the cams, right?

Help deciding on new install locations around house

I'm gonna ask him to just run to the soffits and leave enough slack for me to deal with myself since I'll have to order the cameras in anyway. It looks like I have 10 drops for the exterior that will come from the attic and then at least 3 planned for the interior. All of those will be PoE. So...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

So, AT&T did NOT run cable for me. That's been a mess dealing with and another story entirely. I actually had a low voltage contractor come out today and he's going to get me a quote in the next few days. Apparently running cable in my house is quite difficult. Thanks for asking!

    House install locations part deux

this is my switch - Switch 48 PoE Is it not safe to have a single cat6 from the switch to camera mounted at the tree? Is there a risk of damage to the switch? If that's the case, isn't there a risk for any outdoor camera? And if that's the case, why am I just now hearing about it? @The...

@Flintstone61 I'll follow up later with what my wife says about it all :lmao:

    House install locations part deux

That's slick. I was going to write my own software for it as a project but if it already exists then even better! I assume that will integrate with Blue Iris?

    House install locations part deux

Yes the Z12E's are for plate reading. I have this cool idea where I'd like to capture the plates with AI, read the text, store to a local database, then generate a report of all cars for a given month  The Z12E on the back awning is for looking toward the driveway - but yea, could prob...

    House install locations part deux

@Flintstone61 that seems like even more work than just mounting them to the tree lol.

    House install locations part deux

Also, would love some insight on running cable to trees. Since AT&T may run some skeleton cable for me I'm trying to figure out the best place to have that line ran - should it come out from the soffit? Should I burry PVC all the way to the tree? Do I need some special cat6 for weather purposes...

    House install locations part deux

Alright y'all. I did some more research and here's what I've come up with. I'm thinking I'll start with the talk-back cams at the entrances, then move on to the pair 5442-ZE's at the shutters. After that, I'll go for the two tree installs for license plate captures. Finally, I'll do the...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Ok, I feel like I'm starting to get the idea here. I don't need to box myself into soffit only mounting. Heck, I could run cable out to my tree in the front yard if it'd help get a better shot. I'm going to do some more imagining and I'll report back - maybe in a new post, with all the locations...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

For the rear entrance, where would the camera at the corner be looking? Maybe facing the door? Maybe there should be two there: one facing the door, another facing the driveway? And what about to the left of the rear entrance? A boobie cam facing down and another facing outward, capturing the...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

I need to make a similar size object to a camera and put it on the shutter to see what it looks like. I no joke had a dream last night that I got the camera in and it was bigger than a basketball and me and wife were pissed because there was no way that could go anywhere on the house let alone...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a conduit drop? And why would I do that over Ethernet since I'd need Ethernet to connect to the network anyway?

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Ok, cool. And, just to be clear, the direction each faces would be: Left cam facing diagonal to driveway and walkway entrance Right cam facing diagonal to walkway corner and awning/front door right? That way I have a greater chance of getting IDENTIFY shots from both angles?

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Will turret cams work here? It looks like they may not be able to mount directly to the brick. What are my best options when it comes to that? I was thinking the 5442-ZE, but according to the installation guide they don't recommend mounting them that way.

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Now I'm torn on where to have the cable ran. If it goes through the roof then I'll have to run the cable down the side of the shutters for those front cams. Is that the normal approach? Any tricks or common things I don't know about?

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Oh wow. I hadn’t thought of placements that low before. I was thinking they’d be in the corners of the awning. Are there any pics of other houses with similar installs? I’m just thinking that under shutter placement might not sit well with my wife lol. Also, do they always need to be drilled in...

Help deciding on new install locations around house

Hey y'all. I'm back again. I've taken several pics going around my house that I believe gives a good idea of what I'm dealing with. Below is a Google Doc I made with all the pics and a description of the pic above it. I tried to use locations like FRONT LEFT, REAR RIGHT, North facing, South...

    Camera System/NVR Setup Recommendations

That seems difficult to run through the wall like that. I guess I can ask. Otherwise we have a good local electric company that I’d trust to run that sort of cable. Do you have any video references or a Poe doorbell like that?

    Two way audio support

We already have some Eufy products in our home so I’m not opposed to using their offering for just the door in order to have a convo with someone at the door or something like that. So, I guess at that point it just comes down to preference.

    Camera System/NVR Setup Recommendations

Thanks for your thoughts! Something I didn’t mention was that I am getting AT&T Fiber installed and according to them they will run all the Ethernet I need. I explained I may need a lot all around the house and they said they would do it during the install. So, if that is true I am going to take...

    Two way audio support

How’s the two way audio support in BI? Can I get a standalone IP speaker and do two way talk while viewing a camera on mobile or is that only possible if the two way audio exists on the cam you’re currently viewing? this will be important for us as we build out our camera system, especially for...

    Camera System/NVR Setup Recommendations

It sounds like this sort of thing is best done in increments as opposed to all at once. what do you think about this plan? Install my new Ubiquiti network and run 2 cat6 cables to each location I’d want a cam, such as all four corners of our home, each entrance, and the locations inside, too...

    Camera System/NVR Setup Recommendations

wow. It seems I have a lot to learn. Thank you so much for your responses. I'm not opposed to learning myself, but we would love to get this setup complete before we go on vacation at the end of the month. Do y'all have any recommendations for finding technicians (maybe freelancers) in my area...

    Camera System/NVR Setup Recommendations

Hey everyone, I'm new to this space and have been trying to do a lot of research to inform myself of the options for a camera system for my home. My wife and I moved into a new home about 2 years ago and now we're looking to get a camera system setup for in and outside of our home. After...
