    Never did get the external drive to work. I ended up installing a 6TB internal drive and then ran into another problem-you're unable to review more than 30 days of recordings.

    OK, got the hard drive and mounted it on my PC (need Dahua Disk Manager to read it). Today is October 31st, and the oldest recording is September 30th. There must be a software limitation, because there is NO WAY that takes up 6 TB of storage.

    Sorry for going off, I'm getting frazzled trying to figure this out, and I took it personally. My bad. I'm pretty sure that this is a limitation of the NVR at this point, but I'll try to pull the hard drive and see what's on it.

    That's pretty much impossible. 8 cameras recording with a bitrate of 768 should use (very) roughly 60 GB per 24 hours. That gives me almost 100 days of recording (without accounting for filesystem overhead), so the 89 days estimate it gives me is correct. How does no one find it odd that it...

    I have a 6 TB drive. And the playback option shows exactly 30 days, when it's own estimation shows I should have 89. Are you certain that this isn't a software limitation of some sort that it only shows 30 days of playback?

    when I plug it in and go to backup configuration it shows the external HD as present, but with 0.00kb free/0.00kb total. If I try to format the drive, it says no disk is present.

    I tried that, but it says there's no disk present. That's what's confusing me. It recognizes there's a disk plugged in, but it shows 0kb/0kb free/total, and if I try to format the disk, it says there's no disk present.
