How can I improve the night image or have I reached the limits of the IPC-T5442T-ZE?

I'll try it later tonight. I thought smartIR off (as Mike A. suggested) meant auto iris off  I'll take it I should turn it back on?

How can I improve the night image or have I reached the limits of the IPC-T5442T-ZE?

The background is now bright enough for me. But the face capture could still use some more tweaking I think. I know it's better than 95% of people have it and who mostly use reolink, ring etc. but I'm a perfectionist and if there is room for improvement, I'm all ears :)

How can I improve the night image or have I reached the limits of the IPC-T5442T-ZE?

I have 5442 varifocal set to 2.8mm which was meant as an overview camera and to identify people at distances under 10 feet (as you will see in the pictures perps can come from 4 different directions so I wanted to have that "intersection" covered). It's my first dahua / empire tech. I only...

Can I capture license plates and the suspect's face with the same camera?

I guess it's easier to believe that than to realize you need 10 cameras, each for a specific duty For dahua / loryta poe extender, does it matter if one of the two cameras I would connect it to have 12w of power? I still have 3 free ports on my switch so it's not a problem for me. Yet

Can I capture license plates and the suspect's face with the same camera?

Damn, I was afraid you guys would say that. I think I'll settle for the zoomed in entrance for now and maybe later add another LPR camera. I learn something new every day, thanks. One more question: can I use this POE extender...

Can I capture license plates and the suspect's face with the same camera?

I'm thinking about getting another 5442 from Andy to capture license plates and / or to get a clear shot at a suspect's face (even before he steps foot on my property). Is this doable (day AND night) or do I have to choose between one and the other (right now I can't afford two more cameras)...

How to back up motion detection events to a cloud?

I understand. I wanted to buy either dahua or reolink NVR but from what I've heard they don't work with reolink (or dahua) cameras. The main thing I would want from NVR is storage though. Would this also present problems? What about just saving recordings to my pc (or an external hard drive...

How to back up motion detection events to a cloud?

I know it's probably not optimal but these are all outdoor cameras - what are they gonna do (even if they hack the cameras) - watch me go to work  All other options (blue iris, ftp...) seem so complicated though. What would you suggest (as I said - even if its not a perfect solution)?

How to back up motion detection events to a cloud?

Hi. I now have two overview cameras (reolink) and one 5442 to identify perps. As I'm new to this I decided to start my journey with recording 24/7 to SD cards (san disk high endurance). I read some threads here that some cameras might not like that? Also how many days of recordings can I get on...

    Wall mount bracket

Hi. I have a question regarding Andy's 5442 and pfb203w wall bracket I picked up from amazon. Can the camera be turned and screwed in the direction as shown in the pictures? Can only one screw (where the red arrow points) hold the whole camera in place? I apologize for the stupid question...

    Damaged outdoor CAT6 cables?

Yesterday I picked up 1 indoor and 3 outdoor POE cables (7, 14 and 15 meters) from a local store. They were not cheap too (cables, connectors and the store's "work" cost me around 80 bucks). When I came home I noticed two cables had a cut on their end (see pictures). One of the cables is not...

Do you really need a surge protector for POE cameras?

How do you ground a surge protector if it's indoors? Can I do it by myself or do I have to call an electrician?

Do you really need a surge protector for POE cameras?

From what I have read on the internet it seems like a lot of people don't have any surge protection at all. Is it really necessary then? They also say that if the lightning hits (even in the vicinity of the house) it will fry everything anyway (even the surge protectors) I was thinking about...

POE switch, SD card, cat6 cable

Yeah it's kind of pricey...65 feet costs 40€ but hey if it's good I might just take it and be done with it haha

POE switch, SD card, cat6 cable

Is this one ok? https://www.commscope.com/product-type/cables/twisted-pair-cables/category-6-cables/item760090043/ I can get one locally and someone I know recommended it to me

POE switch, SD card, cat6 cable

I only need about 60 feet of cable (and only 10 feet will be underground). From the quick search on google it seems like all you can get your hands on are long ones like 500 or 1000 feet

POE switch, SD card, cat6 cable

So I just bought one varifocal T5442T from Andy to figure out which fixed lens 5442 I'll buy next. I'd like to run these accessories by you though so I don't make a mistake and buy something unusable. I was thinking about buying: 1) POE SWITCH...

    New member needs some help

So buy the camera and the lights and test mount it and experiment with both before mounting it "permanently"? As rule of thumb though, would mounting the light behind the camera (or from the side - as long as the light isn't "visible" in the picture) be better than mounting the lights in front...

    New member needs some help

I decided that I will start with one varifocal IPC-T5442T-ZE to get my feet wet, test it and then buy another one (or more) accordingly. I still have many questions though. 1) I took a photo with my phone where I would like to place my first camera. Is this too low? I was thinking about hiding...

What If I put some lights outside my house (beside motion activated floodlights I have right now) and keep them turned on all night...would that be better (since the camera would then record in color mode) than IR? How much light would I need?

Ok but isn't the hidden camera gonna be obvious at night (IR lights and all that)?

Or at least something like that placed over the camera?

Great answers everbody. You have so much knowledge  I would still like an IK10 rated camera though (for my own peace of mind). My security situation is such that I don't fear some common criminal (lights, cameras and a strong door would change their mind for sure) but I'm afraid I'm...

    New member needs some help

What do you guys think about vandal proof (IK10) cameras? Aren't you worried that a criminal (who may even wear a mask so you dont get a clear shot of him) will just kick or punch your camera when he sees it? I mean even if you (or cops) detain him and charge him, you are still out of what, 200$

    New member needs some help

How far away would you suggest that I set it then? I would like to detect the trespasser as soon as possible. I was thinking about going the easiest (and the cheapest ) way - SD card and FPS. I know I will only have a few days of 24/7 recordings but I think thats enough (for now). Like I said...

    New member needs some help

Thanks for the quick response. I have read that post (that's why I'm leaning towards 5442-ZE). I want my camera to only detect motion at 50-65 feet away (so I will know when someone jumps over the fence and is on my yard). Distance where I would like to IDENTIFY the suspect would be of course...

    New member needs some help

Hi. I'm new to this forum and to security cameras in general. I've decided to put two cameras outside my house because last week two guys tried to break in at night. I've studied a lot about cameras these past few days, learned a lot but there is still so much I don't know. Thats why I'd like...
