Where are the weather cams these days?

I'm considering putting one of my cams online as a weather camera. A decade ago, Weatherunderground was a popular place for weather cams. Where do the weather cams go these days? I'm using BI5. What technologies are generally required to safely expose one camera stream? Thanks Robert P.S. Here...

UI3 is great! Is there a way to send sound alert when cam triggers?

RTFM, got it! ;) Thanks. I've been using BI4 for quite a few years and never noticed about groups. You are right though, the Blue Iris doc is some of the best I have seen. Always has been.

UI3 is great! Is there a way to send sound alert when cam triggers?

Wow, huge set of options that can be configured! Hadn't seen those before. Thanks so much. You mention camera groups. Where are those groups defined?

UI3 is great! Is there a way to send sound alert when cam triggers?

I've just started using UI3 on a Fire tablet that is dedicated to showing cameras and I'm extremely pleased. It's currently using Silk as the browser. It is in our family room. It would be fantastic if some sort of audible sound or announcement could be sent to the tablet when a camera triggers...

HTTP access to camera status? Or an alert action when camera status changes?

Mainly only the enabled status I can use the following http command to disable (enable=0) or enable (enable=1) the camera. http://192.168.0.18:8081admin?camera=cam_2&enable=0&user=xxxxxx&pw=yyyyyy I just want to be able to query that status, by camera.

HTTP access to camera status? Or an alert action when camera status changes?

I just migrated to BI5 from BI4. My BI system is integrated with HomeSeer for home automation and security. All of the interfacing is via http calls. The one area where I am a bit blind is camera status. I can set the camera status (enabled/disabled) via http just fine. But.. I don't know of any...

Testing migration from BI4 to BI5. HTTP commands fail unless local

I've been a BI4 user on Windows 8 & 10 for several years. I'm closely integrated with Homeseer so I use http commands from BI4 to HS3 and in reverse for triggers and profile changes. I've not had any real motivation to move to BI5 until recently when I decided to move BI to its own server...

I was thinking of something smaller along the lines of the Wyze cube camera.

Looking for small wifi IP camera ideas

Hello all. I've been using BI for a number of years with good success. 3 cams and it just runs. Very happy. The wife has challenged me to add another camera that will record/alert a hummingbird feeder just outside of one of the windows. It is also the window she sees when sitting in her favorite...

Help Getting Into Smart Home / Home Automation

Like Randy, I also have been working with the ESP8266 nodeMCU version of the Arduino. As we noted earlier, you need power and comms for a remote device. The ESP solves the comms issue without cables but it still needs power. What I really like about this solution is that if I can find a sensor...

Blue Iris failing to detect motion for large objects

On the Record tab for the cameras, under Options, you can set a Pre-trigger video buffer in seconds. You might play around with that. Do note though that in the Help documentation it talks about enabling this can impact performance so keep that in mind as you test.

Blue Iris remote view best tool?

@bp2008 made a better remote view page. I don't use it but it gets a lot of attention and the thread discussing it is 53 pages long so you likely can learn anything you might want to know about it. I made a better remote-live-view page

    A new z-wave controller hub

I don't use z-wave (I'm insteon based) but I know it works great with HomeSeer. Interface is a z-stick plus. Not an inexpensive option but a super flexible and expandable option. I'm a really impressed and satisfied user. I think it checks all your boxes.

Help Getting Into Smart Home / Home Automation

David, In terms of home automation and hooking all the parts together, you have proposed a uniquely difficult situation. First, you have locations that are 100+ feet from your house. To do this, you need two things. First is power, the second is communications. Just take the mailbox. Do you...

Lets talk about UPS power supplies

@CaliGirl Seems to me you are looking for a UPS with the following capabilities: 1. Ability to ride out intermittent short duration ( ~5 mins or less) outages. Maybe 15-20 minutes total outage duration. 2. Once UPS battery capacity gets low, issue a shutdown command to the PC so that it goes...

Need help picking out Equipment for remote Location- Needs to boot back up easily

I'd suggest you set the static IP for the DELL server on the server ethernet adapter and not rely on the router to provide the DNS. I've always liked that better.

Tell us about your home automation!

I agree with your last statement. As a matter of fact, I make it a rule for myself that neither my security system or home automation system may rely on any external service (on the outside of my router) to work. However, you paint the picture as only being black or white - hardwired or depend...

A couple of questions before cutting over to Blue Iris...

My server runs BI4 and HS3. Nothing else. It is Win 10 Home. I have disabled automatic updates via a registry change so I can control when they download and apply. It is pretty pristine. I have malwarebytes installed but it does not always run, only when I initiate a scan. My main goal is to...

Need help picking out Equipment for remote Location- Needs to boot back up easily

Wow, over $400! It kind of reminds me of the first remote thermostat controller that I installed 10 years ago. It attached to the furnace and the thermostat and then the land line. It was a Honeywell Telephone Access Unit. I would call the house and it would answer and give me a menu of options...

Need help picking out Equipment for remote Location- Needs to boot back up easily

First, to clarify, I wanted to be able to control the water softener because it cleans itself out periodically. If the well and water heater were turned off, I didn't want the softener trying to run without a water supply. It is 110V so it is on a simple controlled outlet. For the main house, I...

Need help picking out Equipment for remote Location- Needs to boot back up easily

I do a simple timelapse with hourly snapshots. On the Record tab for each camera, you can setup to take a JPEG snapshot every mmm:sss. That's what I use. What you posted is far superior but it requires a full video recording. Since I'm on satellite, I don't do any video. But, surely there is...

Ok, I see a couple of things we can work on. The thermostat reliability and the water concerns. It came with an app for...

Need help picking out Equipment for remote Location- Needs to boot back up easily

Now that you are on a good platform with some extra processing power, you might want to think about home automation. I've linked my security system (BI4) and my home automation (HomeSeer3) so that they play well with each other. Some scenarios that I use: BI detects motion on cameras. BI sends...

Police look to access private video networks

Public spaces are not the same as private spaces. As such, a pubic park or street does not carry any expectation of privacy. A private business is different. Unless otherwise clearly noted, I do not expect my actions to be filmed and made available to any third party with which I have no agreement.

Several of us use Startup Delayer (free). It is a good way to control startup of non services. BI runs well as a service. I recommend. And I'm a big fan of Classic Shell as the first add on for windows 10. Some version of VNC can be nice at times. I use TinyVNC. And your favorite...
