    MS Edge in IE mode

To live view my Hikvision camera I have to use Edge in IE mode. It seems it use to be in a drop down window but I can't find the option anywhere. I've tried the section in settings>default browser>"allow programs to run in IE" but that doesn't work. Any help appreciated.

Tendelux IR Illuminator AI4 Infrared Light

The AI4 specs state "Make sure that your camera is sensitive to 850nm infrared light". I am assuming this is compatible with Hikvision cameras?? I feel the DI10 is a real value but in my case I only need light from 0-30 ft.

Thanks. That looks like a perfect solution.

Tendelux IR Illuminator AI4 Infrared Light

I understand. Also, did you use the power supply that came with it. Seems like common problem is the power supply on the IR illuminators are a little under powered and run hot. Where I need to put the power supply is in a storage shed and summer temps are high. Guess I could take a chance...

Tendelux IR Illuminator AI4 Infrared Light

After you opened them up did you do something to prevent future water intrusion, like some kind of sealant? I read part of the thread on the DI10 illuminator and I don't see any mention of water intrusion in it. May have been mentioned and I didn't see it. I don't mind spending the extra few...

Tendelux IR Illuminator AI4 Infrared Light

The IR illuminator light on one of my Hikvision cameras bit the dust. I need an auxiliary light and only need about 30 ft of coverage, so I'm considering the Tenderlux 4w AI4. Some of the reviews indicate there may be an issue with water intrusion, but if mounted under a soffit would this be a...

    Ebay computer sellers

Well, that's what I'm thinking. I'm sure one could get a defective computer but I would think the high volume, good rating dealers would be pretty consistent in providing good machines, or at least making things right if it was bad out of the box. Comparable computers look cheaper from these...

    Ebay computer sellers

Size is not an issue for me, but no place for a 3.5" drive is not a preference. However with a SATA interface I could stick a SSD in it.

    Ebay computer sellers

Could you give me a link on the Intel 12th gen cpu. It may not still be on sale, but I never can find the good deals on the Dell Outlet. I may be going to the wrong place. The I3 would work for me but I'd really prefer SSD storage. The HP looks like a good find also.

    Ebay computer sellers

I need to pick up a Dell desktop computer. Since there are so many dealers selling Dell refurbs I was wondering if anyone has had particularly good results with a specific seller?

    backup software

No, I don't remember that. I've had pretty frequent Macrium updates, and constant Windows updates and I can't say I've ever had a problem. But, sooner or later one of the two will cause problems. What's interesting is I've discovered Western Digital offers Acronis basic edition free if you...

    backup software

AOMEI is what is was looking at. All I need is partition backups, and hopefully the ability to do them automatically. Of course, Macrium would generate Win PE install disk so you could quickly re-install C: drive, but I never had to use it. I'd like something that the paid version offered and...

    backup software

Yeah, I am too!! For right now I'm going to stay with Macrium Free until I see what's going to happen. If I spend money, I'll probably go back with Macrium as I'm familiar with how it works and trust it. Before I do that I may try a couple of the other free ones, but you never really never...

    backup software

Help me out here. I've never used script files before. Where is the text inserted and what activates it? It doesn't appear the script runs automatically but is kinda like a macro. And yes, I'm hoping Macrium will still work for a few more years. There well be no security updates but I would...

    backup software

Years ago I used Acronis True Image and it worked fine. Good software. I can't see any advantage of it over Macrium and it is more expensive. But it boils down to which one you are the most familiar with using and feel comfortable with.

    backup software

Yeah, I may buy it as well. If my application was for business I'd definitely stay with it, but for the way I use it a free version would be nice. Although they won't be supporting the program, I assume it can still be used but won't be available for download.

    backup software

I've used the free version of Macrium Reflect for years and it does everything and more than what I need. The company is dropping support for the free version in early 2024. I'm not sure if this just means no upgrades, but I would think downloads will no longer be available. I'm looking for...

    Hikvision NVR video issue

Edit: The Asus monitor connected to the NVR has a function called "alignment grid". Whatever it is it got turned on accidentally. The vertical and horizontal lines it made were exactly to the pixel overlaying the lines that the NVR camera windows produced. Fixed.

    Hikvision NVR video issue

Hikvision 7608NI with 8 cameras. With 8 cameras there are actually 9 windows of the same size showing on the monitor. When any of the cameras go into full screen mode (initiated by line crossing or manually) the grid lines from the windows are still present on the screen. The camera image is...

The tech flaw that lets hackers control surveillance cameras

What are some ways to lock down tight a network? Obviously a good firewall first. What would be an example of other common vulnerable devices? Even with my VPN for accessing cameras, I'm starting to wonder if I should have anything that I can access remotely.

    hikvision NVR securiity

"This exact possibility is one of the reasons that a truly security-conscious person doesn't let their NVR or cameras have internet access in the first place" I saw this statement in a cyber security thread. If one is accessing their system through an OpenVPN connection you have to have an...

    NVR blocking internet access

That did not work either unless I did something wrong. To change the DNS server and Default Gateway address I had to uncheck "Enable DHCP", then changed both to the LAN IP address of the NVR. The NVR'S IP address is set to "manual" on the router so it's not changing. I can't get a remote...

    NVR blocking internet access

Well, I just isolated the NVR from the internet on the router settings and it would not allow remote access after that, so that possibility is ruled out. Is it even possible to isolate the NVR and still have remote access? On the NVR, are you talking about the settings "IPv4 Default Gateway"...

    NVR blocking internet access

OK that makes sense. I need to figure out how to block the NVR on the Asus router. Maybe "parental controls". I don't even know how important isolating the NVR is, as my cameras feed directly to the NVR so they should not have internet access at all.

    NVR blocking internet access

It's my understanding that for security purposes I can block internet access of my NVR using functions in my Asus router. If I do this is it also going to prevent remote access to my camera system using one of my OpenVPN clients?

    Asus router and Instant Guard

I Have noticed the Instant Guard VPN feature on Asus routers mentioned on other forums. Looks like it is a tunnel VPN that's easy to set up. I currently use OpenVPN and find it to be great although a little learning curve in setting it up. What's the deal with Instant Guard?

What software do you use for backup?

Yes, Macrium is great for creating a clone or image of a drive. By some of the posts here I think there is some confusion on imaging a drive, and just backing up files. Two different functions altogether.

What software do you use for backup?

My understanding is that the free version will still be available for use, so what will be the results of "discontinuing support"? I guess a lot may depend on an individual's use of the program, but for simple disk image backups I'm not sure what difference this will make. I'm thinking Macrium...
