    Long distance camera install

s—b, As an 'I can do it' type in similar physical circumstances, I can tell you. A) Wireless - very not likely unless you have an engineer friend at the NSA. B) Call for a local professional quote. C) Be prepared for a long slog if you attempt it yourself. Jim

    The best cable connectors?

I have built a lot of ends - lotsa practice both due to mistakes and gremlins. I re-do frequently mainly because I have rodents that nibble on cat6. My runs are either thru the trees or along the ground in woods. I was pleased to learn here about dialectic grease and fancy tapes, but question...

    Some PoE switch basics, please...

Thanks, AB...there was another thread in the Dahua section that made a similar reference. I will dig into the specs of what I have. What's the difference between NVR5216-16P-4KS2E and 4kS2? Jim

    Some PoE switch basics, please...

I have two, a Dahua and a BV-tech. Both appear to have the same specs and look similar except for the external case. They woth fine/the same. Reading the tech sheet... The two transmission modes are what may be confusing me: Standard @100 Mbps x 100M and Extended @ 10 Mbps x 260M. If...

Advice on new Dahua setup without NVR

Gavin, digging into this RP community is like someone unable to read visiting the Library of Alexandria. I am sure you are quite familiar with this flow, but perhaps it is food for someone else. CCTV Raspberry Pi Based System with Storage using MotionEyeOS | Random Nerd Tutorials I'll not...

After months of bugs and promise, I finally got it!

"You are confused" ...Perhaps I was misread or it was clumsily phrased: Someone who goes by Looney, presumably very knowledgeable, called my choice of kit, 'Chinese Junk' in another post. I suspect, even tho' it was sold within the U.S. it may all have been sold outside a privileged/protected...

After months of bugs and promise, I finally got it!

Thanks, guys... To clarify, I simply plug the NVR into the switch with a common ~5' cable that came in some other package. To clean it up, I will make a short replacement with some Cat6a. The switch and the camera are separated by 500+ft of Cat6a. It's finally getting fun. Jim

Gavin, That Raspberry Pi looks an interesting bit of kit, eh? I should have had children later in life ....aaaah, No. Cheers. Jim

After months of bugs and promise, I finally got it!

I started many months ago not knowing 'jackc'hit'. All I wanted ...was to mount a camera in a pretty part of my property to create another window in the kitchen. Like most newbies, I bought unbranded RG59 cabled gear which did not work well for me. I read HIK was a big name... but that did...

Advice on new Dahua setup without NVR

Gavin, I know what you mean about an irrational interest; I am simply a civilian lurker around here, but I gather, there are simple converter boxes 'AHD to HDMI' that appear to make a direct 'Camera to monitor' connection - the basics anyway. I am not sure about your list of add-ons...

New image: "Cannot find Network Host" I could use some guidance.

Thanks, BP... Since there are only two pieces involved - I guess I will have to figure out the conflict between them, one they did not previously have. Meanwhile, Amazon brought me goodies to improve my cabling. Thanks. Jim

New image: "Cannot find Network Host" I could use some guidance.

Looney, Since a throw-away line is an easy walkaway ...if you know— can you at least tell me whether 'Network Host' is internal or external? Jim

Good thought, L2... I like the looks of both of those. The NVR is a DHI-NVR4104-P-4KS2 ...camera: DH-IPC-HDW4631C-A (luckily I saved the cartons - the hardware is home) I appreciate the help - thanks.. Jim

New image: "Cannot find Network Host" I could use some guidance.

I have a 4104 NVR and one camera. I am located in a rural setting with no internet access - I simply attach a camera to the NVR and monitor and have no external network connections, but I lost my image. I cannot tell if -in this instance- my 'Network Host' is the NVR or software thinks I was...
