The APP -software- that drives the camera functionality - Seen *person:movement* alert

We have ring in one house and nest in another. Ontop, I just have a bunch of cameras from Empire connected to our Synology NAS on each house. Never have needed to -review- the feed on these feeds - I am well aware the video quality is of much higher quality. However, what I gain most in...

    Motion Detection with Hik/Synology

I know the 1st reply will be to run a real VMS......I have a large Synology@home and just plan to connect 2 camera's 2 them for now. For those in the know , how does the detection abilities in the Hik. cameras translate over when connecting them to the Synology based VMS

    Motion Blurring with New Turrent

Fenderman - Thank you . That did it. I dropped it from 100 to 40 and it was night and day difference as far as ghosting ! Any recommended nightime settings you can advise aside from the above I have already listed. At 5 feet, a face is clearly legiable. At 10 feet, I can make it out, but not...

How Low Should I Mount on Entrance

While I plan to just grab a long cord and play around with positioning, is the pov best attained with the camera offset from the door (either pointing left or right & down). For example, in a local supermarket that was recently built, they had one dome literally in the middle of the doing...

How Low Should I Mount on Entrance

Just ordered a turrent camera to see how I ~feel~ about IP cams on the house. For this 1st camera install, I plan to install it on our rear entrance. There is a porch with a 4-5 stair walkup. The plan is to mount the camera close towards the door to get a good facial hot as well overlooking...

    Turrent or Dome

I ordered a turrent to see how it would look.... Any rattle can these. I may just spray paint these brown to blend in with the brickwork ?

    Turrent or Dome

I just looked up the Huisun mini ptz. With those IR's, it should work better but if only it was offered in a dome variant. How does that saying go - fashion versus function

    Turrent or Dome

Im torn between the VR Zoom Dome or the Turrent for the camera's facing the door entrances. I think the sweet spot on either will be around 4mm range regardless. I like the VR Dome just to how it *looks*. Very compact, subtle, not in your face..... Are the new Turrents that much better in IR...

    Difficulty with cat5 connectors

He says his tester is testing it fine....aka, simple continuity test. So there's no mismatch. More the plug or the camera OP. Do a simple test. Take a factory made patch cord. Hook it up. Does it look fine then. If not, deduce to the port on the camera

    Difficulty with cat5 connectors

Could be a bad port on the camera. ? Is the connector you're using matches the wire you are using (aka, solid wire, solid rated connector)

    Cat6 & rj-45

Intersting POV from the cctv side of things....is SOP to just crimp heads on all installs ? Even let's say on installs where you have a J box and you would typically run liquidtight to the camera . I'm going with Dahua cams and they seem to offer a plethora of mounts *round and gooseneck mounts*

    Cat6 & rj-45

The few cameras I've seen (all Axis or Avigilon) all have standard ports on them with no pigtails. I suppose we've gone full circle on this topic but even for my planned install at home, I'm doing it by our industry practices, which is terminated onto a jackhead and then a patch cord. There is 1...

    Cat6 & rj-45

I don't install cctv cams but in my line of work, DC, yes, a crimped head will be done in a pinch - temporarily. The tolerances for cat6 are tighter, and even if a custom patch was made, it will be tested on the DTX tester and not just a continuity test. We may have different...

    Cat6 & rj-45

Unless there is a good amount of space for proper turn radius, a connector and then stranded patch is the way to go Solid cat6 IMO is too stiff for the port of most equipment, especially resi - grade equipment we are talking here. Crimping a 45 head on is is doable and it will work. Whether it...

    Cat6 & rj-45

Possible, really depends I suppose on the equipement you are connecting, how much room you have for proper bend radius, strain , etc. Not the proper way....but doable...

    LED lighting vs. IR illuminator

The City just swapped out the sodium streetlights to LEDS. I hate it. It's like it's a movie set on the block....so bright, I can see shadowlines, and some house fronts have the wall of white light of them... Anyhow, I digress. I was planning to a additional IR illuminator as part of my camera...

Specs on this Dahuna - hdbw4421e - Outdoor Rated ?

Is it true the higher the MP you go, the lower quality of low light performance you get ? I dunno if there benefits to it having WDR and night performance.
