180 degree driveway view ?

I'm looking for a POE camera to put on a pole beside a long driveway so I can get pictures in "both" directions of the driveway.

The primary use is alerting to vehicles and animal watching. I'd prefer to stay with Andy's Dahua cameras unless there's a compelling alternative.

I have Blue Iris, a 5442 and a couple of 1831s for the house. What camera's would be reasonable choices for an exposed mounting on a pole?

Would a PTZ that patrols every few seconds to look the "other way" continue to work for a few years?

Two 5442 varifocal turrets or bullets mounted on the pole one looking each direction. Always test a proposed location for a min of 24 hrs prior to permanent install.

If you want to do this with only one camera, you could go with a fisheye or a dual lens cam. Fisheye gives you an enormous field of view, but with lots of distortion which bothers some people. A dual lens camera is just like two cameras, but only needing the footprint and PoE connection of one camera.

I'm not sure what fisheye to recommend since the only one on Andy's amazon shop is not outdoor rated so it should probably not be as exposed as it would be mounted on a pole.



For a fisheye outdoors you just want a vertical pole mount (again, note possible water intrusion issues using non-outdoor rated camera), but for the "boobie cam" you would want both of these brackets I think. Depending on which camera you choose, you may need a slightly different mount to have compatible pre-drilled holes. Check Dahua's product page for the camera of your choice, then Accessories tab.

Note that using a camera such as the boobie cam in an exposed location like that, will be subject to have possible issue's with rain on the domes blinding it, water spots, dirt, degradation of the domes from UV, weird reflections.

There are various ways to power two cameras on a single cable. A switch wouldn't be needed for two fixed cameras.

Another option besides a PoE switch port is to use a non-PoE switch port with an additional PoE power injector.

A good general plan with PTZ is to use a spotter camera which when triggered for motion causes the PTZ to move to a preset.

I only pulled one cable. In hindsight, I suppose pulling 2 might have been better.
The pole is about 250 feet from the house and doesn't have usable power.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20 .. thus why I now always recommend the N+1+ rule for cat5e/6 cable runs.. always try to run one more cat5e/6 cable than you thought you would need.

This has helped me a lot.

I'll give this a try. Their garage sale has one at half price and some used cameras.

Reporting back. The splitter works as advertised.
I got two garage sale cameras from Nellys (Uniview) that are ok but not as good as the other cameras. I may (probably?) don't have the image setting optimized

I have noticed with similar splitters(using 2), once in a while, some of those cameras go offline, but a reboot, or two will bring it back online. I'm not sure what is going on, they lose their ip address? They are regular cameras, not POE+ ones.

only 1 cable? heck..I would of pulled 4 2 for cameras, 2 for spare (DC applications such as a PIR or LED light for example).
