Still learning what all the features of these cameras are. Any reason to wait to purchase the 2021 5442s over the current version?

There will have the SMD 3.0 firmware to upgrade, hardware no difference.
Given the size of it, the use will be a very large imaging sensor behind that "PTZ". With the sacrifice that this isn't a full range PTZ.
Video shows a road, but a driveway might be more applicable for home users.

In recent times, there is a BIG move to cameras with multiple imaging sensors in one unit.
Not just this example but multiangle ones (360, 270), PTZs with another PTZ and fixed styles.
I don't mind the idea, it saves installation time (some sometimes space) having an all-in-one unit.
There are pros and cons to this. I just hope they can do the connectivity right. Some folks here have had issues with the boobie cam having the second feed going offline. Now that is a lower priced unit, but it is a concern.

Truth be told I've been waiting for this camera to be updated. I just couldn't bring myself to do it given only one camera can use all of the main features. Along with what you indicated up above where the secondary camera would go off line.
Hope to see 2021 bring a refresh to a great concept camera . . .
I wouldn't get too excited. 8mp 1/1.2 isn't the same as 4mp 1/1.2.
I don't think anyone has ever posted one of these, this Chart probably ought to be in the Wiki, but for everyone, a Chart of Sensor Size vs Sensor Area and physical size:
I will be curious about the multi-lens camera. On the surface, it doesn't make sense. I assume that it has two sensors, not just one 1/1.8"? Why would the panoramic and the detail segments use about the same focal length lens vs one being like 3mm (vs both being 8mm) and the other being much longer (32mm or even 56mm)? Wait and see i guess.
They're both varifocal so I guess you just set one wide and one zoomed. 8mm is obviously an indication they're not intended for close use. I'm guesing this probably means they have the commercial market in mind so probably expect them to be mounted farily high on a building side.
