I've been reading a lot about the resources necessary to run blue iris, especially in 20+ camera situations. I'm kinda stuck with blue iris since I'm using triggers from motion for my Homeseer automation system. I'd like some feedback about the hardware to use. I was thinking I should use some sort of RAID for backup in the event of a drive failure. Possibly Raid 5 even though its a lot higher risk than raid 6.

Camera:

- 22 Cameras
- 10-15fps (probably 10fps)
- 4mp resolution
- 4096 bitrate?

Server option 1:

- 7700k
- 9650se 12mp card I have laying around or some hardware based raid controller
- 32gb ram
- ssd for OS
- 5 x 10tb Surveillence drives in raid 5/6?

Dual Server option 2:

- 7700k
- 32gb ram
- 10gbe card
- ssd for os

+

I have a 80tb 10gbe NAS I use for plex, homeseer, etc I could break up into 40TB plex and 40tb for the blue iris storage.

Any thoughts appreciated!

reconsider 4mp cameras unless you dont need night/low light vision...see dahua starlight threads
you dont need raid backup on a home system....way overkill, get cameras that support micro sd storage.

1) I've been planning on using the 4mp hikivision mini domes for my indoor cameras as my wife wants them to have a small footprint. My outdoor cameras I'm open to any suggestions.

2) will look at dahua starlight, I assume for outdoor use?

3) not concerned about price, just want to be able to have reliable recording

4) What is the point of micro sd storage as it relates to blue iris? Thank you

dahua makes 2mp starlight mini domes...same size..
starlight benefits are seen outdoors and indoors, particularly with mini-domes as they have much weaker ir than others.

Can you elaborate on the microsd benefit in terms of using blueiris?

Also do 2mp starlight cams have an advantage over 4mp?

the camera will record to sd card as well as the bi machine...backup...no need for raid.
go read the tread and youll see the advantage.
