2432F-IW (chinese?) needs fw, but which version?

sticker has 5.1.2, so unlikely to ever have had 5.2.8, but good to know about.

As usual, Alastair's guidance has salvaged another camera. I think I owe you (another) one by now... :-)

rebooted after modding mdtblock6 per brick-fix instructions and it's in English on who'slooking's 5.2.5 with the brick-fix min-system. yeah!

then upgraded from the GUI straight to official 5.4.5 from
DOWNLOAD PORTAL

All seems well. thanx again! Paul.

Actually - I do think it's still very much the other way! That was so generous and useful, and benefited more users than you know.

Your eBay is so much more productive for what are presumably 'spares and repairs' items.
Our ebay.co.uk is more sparse, though I have had 2 or 3 over the last couple of months.
But they weren't very interesting - a DS-2CD2042WD well out of focus, and a 7608N-E2 running in Chinese.

That's a bit risky, as the camera's firmware update process is file-based as opposed to flash partition based.
And as Hikvision update the firmware wrappers, the earlier firmware upgrade code needs to be able to handle it.
So the final state can be dependant on the history, which in your case will likely have had a partial flash erase.
I'd (as do Hikvision) recommend not skipping the intermediate versions.
