Keep the rounds under the speed of sound in the city and crank it up at the range.
There WILL be a crack if supersonic. I have 22 with a can. When I use subsonic rounds,
all one hears is the action cycle. Using supersonic stuff, the crack overcomes the action noise.
But, I have slept since then..
My next in line pest control is a 22lr with a can and it is a tack driver, the TCR 10/22. Pretty much the same as Ruger 1022 but cheaper. Also built an 5.5" SBR AR15 in 22lr and have a 22lr S&W std length AR15 rifle. All 3 with a can and as you said virtually silent with subs except for the action. Very fun.
