  • H.265 cameras are supported via RTSP
  • H.265 direct-to-disc recording and MP4 file exports are available only on the 64-bit version
  • Other video compression and processing components have been updated

I don't have any H.265 cameras currently, but I expect H.265 to cost nearly twice as much CPU as H.264.

Much moreso, actually, since hardware accelerated decoding isn't available in Blue Iris for H.265 yet. When it does become available in Blue Iris, it will probably be Skylake and newer Intel chips only, because I think that is when Intel added support to the hardware.

are you sure its not hw decoded @bp2008? typically software is always a failback and if the hardware has support it'll pick it right up since he's using OS calls

I wouldent be surprised if you got hardware decoding if your gfx system already supports h265

Well the hardware acceleration option still mentions h264 by name but not h265. That is what I was going on. Hardware accelerated decoding isn't automatic. It is through the Intel media SDK and to this day BI still can't use hardware accelerated encoding, only decoding. Progress has been slow going.

I noticed an increase, almost double, the CPU usage when I switched all my cameras to h265.

That's what I expected. I only have one camera for now and the cpu now is often ~15% now. I noticed too that we don't see the H.265 name in the options...designed like this or not.

Just for clarification, some Hikvision cameras have H.264+ capability but was not supported with BI hardware acceleration. Does the BI update now allow us to use the H.264+ option with hardware acceleration?

no, h264+ is a pripotary encoding.. hardware decoders are not going to play nicely with non-standard implementations.

dont hold your breath on that ever getting hw decoding support.

what camera does that? the only thing i ever see over http anymore is legacy mjpeg; h264 has been pretty much exclusively RTSP; and so is the h265 implementations ive came across.

I've been running 4.4.7.0 on a remote machine. After being up for just under a week I suddenly lost connection to both of my cameras. I'm logged in via the iOS app now and noticed my memory usage is sitting around 5.0GB. I never noticed it going up, but maybe there's a memory leak which has caused the connection to the cameras to be dropped. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I wish there was a way to restart BlueIris via the iOS app....

Are you using a skylake processor and hardware acceleration?

I'm running an i7-4770R with acceleration enabled. I think that's Haswell.

ha! I just found the "RESET PC" button on the iOS app. It's on the light bulb page. It's back up and running for now... 804MB of memory usage now.
