4MP using H.265 codec

I get the same 1/2 green screen when trying H.265 on my cameras. They are also Dahua 5231 Starlights...not sure if that matters.
The Dahua web GUI shows as normal...BI screen and recording shows 2/3 green and then sporadically drops the signal and reconnects. (I'm on the latest BI ver but same issue the last few versions.)

I will say, maybe if there is also a BI setting I am supposed to change for this, I don't know about it. I found no reference to "H.265" in the help file search.

I'm thinking it is because Blue Iris does not have the 5231 listed yet and what we are using is not really for the 5231. I'm just going to be patient and wait however maybe an email to support may initiate a resolution. I don't want to be pushy as I love Blue Iris and it has been an astounding application.

BI does not have much in the way of Dahua camera specific models listed...I was assuming that is maybe because they would all use the same setting in general so no need for them to list and set specific parms for every model maybe?
Anyway the 1st does not connect and the other 2 do the green screen thing so back to H.264 for now.

I like BI so far too....But it looks like H.265 was supposed to be supported many versions ago...which is why I figured I was missing a setting or something.
If no one else responds with a revelation I'll email support as it would be nice to use H.265 as I only have a 2TB drive right now for storage.

BI supports the dahua fine but not h265, switch to h264

I did switch back to H.264 of course which works just fine but wanted to use H.265 if it was available per previous release notes...maybe it is just for certain cams?
I tried to disable HA per @fenderman suggestion but same result as the other guy
Like I mentioned, nothing in the current help file to indicate H.265 support...just saw it as a release note.
I'll just email the BI guy and post his reply here for others.

If only I'd won Q's free Purple drive I'd have space to spare and be carefree.

Eh, hard drives are cheap

So Ken from BI responded quickly but asked if I could, "send a link to test the camera via browser from here", which was very nice of him.
Would anyone know how I do that? I don't know what link he is referring to or how to get it?
I get to my camera via its IP on my browser, not a full URL link.

he wants you to forward ports to it so he can access the camera remotely and add it to his BlueIris Test environment; add an admin user for him to login with and delete the port forwards/user after he's done his voodoo

technically 554 tcp/udp should be all he needs to get the feed, the URI should be like:
Code:
rtsp://username:password@EXTERNALIP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1

for your substream which will be easiest for him to work with remotely unless you have really good upload speeds (>5-6Mbit), make sure you setup the substream to be h265 also.. but you might verify your having issues w/substream on h265 just so he's not on a goose chase

Got it good points about substream setting. Thanks.
Yeah, my upload speed is almost non-existent. <0.5.

I can now confirm that this issue has been fixed in latest software update 4.4.9.10!

Very impressed by how quickly Blue Iris Support responded with the fix.

Enjoy the H.265 direct to disk support. I haven't performed an exhaustive comparison test with H.264, but on the surface it appears to be 2 x more efficient based upon a simple comparison test.

HO ! Good to know, I should try it again, I had the same crash as soon as it recorded on the HD, worked fine almost all November and after an update (I should have not installed) H.265 did this kind of crash :(
Not mission critical here so I'll sure try it again, H.265 is so good (one cam for the moment).

...Not so fast.

I'm on the latest version, 4.5.1 and still have the 2/3 green screen issue (see post #20) when switching to H.265.
My camera is the hdw5231r-z. For all I know the issue could be camera specific though.

Ken has been attentive. We are trading emails and he is looking into it.

Wondering if the green screen issue got anywhere in the last week? I just got blue iris running (4.5.1.4) with my hdw5231r-z this week and same thing when I tried using h.265 today.

Thank you for the update regarding the green screen. The forum has been great for getting me up to speed on my learning curve and trying stuff out.

In my case it's working OK now. Just restart the cam in BI if the image is weird. No more crashes for me. Just a couple of problems with 24/24 recording...Or with h.264 with smart codec ON...Works but the first 30-40 seconds are missing with each 10 minutes parts. If I configure it to 5 mins, less seconds are missing.

So I'm back with h.264 (smart codec OFF) for now :)

BI will never work with smart codecs..they are proprietary...
