So I got my first camera. i finally got my verizon fios to work with an ASUS router to set up openvpn. Running BI on windows and trying to connect the camera. I opened the dahua config tool to change camera username and password but it says "the device and the PC are not in the same segment or the port is error" -- that seems like a problem but i dont know how to fix. I also tried to connect the camera through BI -- I put in the cam IP but it wont connect. Any guidance on how to fix this or troubleshoot?

THanks everyone -- I am getting closer each day to getting things up and running

I should clarify -- my set up is FIOS > ASUS > unmanaged POE switch > dahua cam (the pc is also on the switch).

So your FIOS-ASUS stuff is not involved in this LAN question. Which essentially is "how do I connect my PC to my new Dahua cam?".
Yes?
You have not provided us with a great deal of relevant info, such as the actual ip adresses involved. But taking a wild guess, the dahua 5231 default address is 192.168.1.108 and your pc is probably on a different subnet. You need to change the ip address of the camera to the same subnet as your pc.

You could try free Dahua's Config Tool ==>> here <<==. I suggest v3.20.0, as I have used the Amcrest version to find Amcrest cams (that were re-branded Dahua's) and that were on different subnets.

OK - here are my numbers-- pc is first line and cam is second line.
pc ip- 192.168.50.30; subnet mask - 255.255.255.0; gateway - 192.168.50.1
cam ip- 192.168.1.108; subnet mask - 255.255.255.0; gateway - 192.168.1.1; tcp - 37777 httpport - 80

I tried changing the IP and the Gateway on the camera to match the PC via the dahua config tool. Each time is says "IP modification failed" It also continues to have the warning "Note: The dvice and the PC are not in the same segment or the port is error"
what do you guys think?
Thank you

And to answer the first question -- I dont think this is FIOS - ASUS issue so yes, my question is "How do I connect my PC to my Dahua cam?"
Thanks again

if the tool is not working then you need to manually do it..there are several threads that discuss it..connect camera and PC ONLY to switch....change pc ipv4 address to match subnet, set yours to 192.168.1.1....then access camera and set a static ip or set to dhcp then reserve in router...
or simply change your router ip to the default 192.168.1.1
