$99 Amcrest 1080p ProHD from Foscam

I don't know if this Amcrest is "crap". The video quality is fine for my needs and has the networking feature set that I wanted. Now, the earlier Foscam's I had, that's a different situation.

Still not sold on any foscam products, apart from their cheap looking build quality they just don't have the same impact as others

Good question. Some of us enjoy pain and suffering. :) I still have 4 Foscams so I am aware of previous problems.

I consider the Amcrest cameras a step above Foscams. 3D noise reduction is a big plus.

Make sure BI knows what model camera you are using.

/Properties/Video/Configure/Make/Amcrest
/Properties/Video/Configure/Model/ProHD 1080P RTSP/HTTP

Strange. It works for me (except diagonal pan).
Maybe
Properties/PTZ Control/Eanble Pan Tilt Zoom
Properties/PTZ Control/Network IP Amcrest H.264
Properties/PTZ Control/Options Enable PTZ UI

I had some funky behavior with the 2nd Amcrest I added to BI. Whenever it detected a motion, that camera view would freeze and the clip would be 0 bytes and show in BI as if it was still recording.

Deleting the recording and restarting the BI interface got the view to be live again. I finally deleted the 2nd camera and did a clone of my first, then customized it for the 2nd camera and it's been working fine since.

Is anyone experiencing micro freezes when using the ProHD? I have several of them, a few Foscam and a few Hikvision, yet all the Amcrest cameras will "freeze" (go unresponsive for 5-7 seconds). This occurs in the live views and shows up during recordings as well. I can confirm that this does NOT occur outside of Blue Iris. When I have the all cameras view up, I will see any Amcrest ProHD camera attached "freeze" (showing both the Amcrest timestamp and BlueIris timestamp stopped), but all the others continue (other cameras timestamp and BlueIris timestamp changing as expected). I've tried via Wired ethernet and Wifi, both exhibit the exact same issue. Latest version of Blue Iris x64 on i7-3770.

Anyone else? I initially noticed this when I turned the sound on in my newborn sons room, at first I thought it was just a bad microphone, but it was actually "freezing".

How many total cameras and how much ram? Have you looked at your CPU usage? Are the Amcrest cameras the only 1080p?

7 other cameras, 4 of which are 1080p. 32GB of RAM on the system and Intel HD hardware option is enabled... this is not a lack of resources issue as the other Hikvision cube cameras that I'm running (at a higher resolution) do not freeze.

I've been advised to try another Amcrest profile as the one specific for this camera may not be working. I'm trying now.

Firmware is up to date and I'm wired, not wireless. So far, so good today thus far while i've been glancing at it, the real test is if i leave sound turned on... it's easier to "detect" it freezing (as the sound cuts off).

Just got one of these after trying a cheaper ANNKE 720p one, see this thread.

Its a good place to start for a novice like me. However now I am hooked, I have my eye on the infamous PTZ IP CAMERA Bullet 10 x zoom 2MP discussed at length on the forum lol.

one thing about the Amcrest ProHD - it's not weatherproof. Of course, it's not advertised as such! I have one in my entryway, which is well protected from the weather. The other one under an eave in my backyard. I was hoping it would be protected enough from the weather to survive, but we had one heck of a storm last night and rain was going sideways. Anyway, that camera is now dead. I knew this was a possibility, and even thought of building a shield of some sort, but didn't get around to it.

You might be able to repair it. I've had three indoor Foscam 8910W's that got drenched with hoses washing off a covered deck above them. I was able to repair all three of them by taking out the circuit boards and cleaning them with a brush and alcohol. Two were at my Mom's house and one at a clients house. That was several months ago and they're all still working.

I was able to fix the 5-7 second video freezing problem that was occurring in Blue Iris by changing the Amcrest camera model from "ProHD 1080P TSP/HTTP" to "IP2M-841W Main Stream RTSP" and by unselecting "Use RTSP/stream timecode".

any tips on popping the case open to get at the circuit board?

I don't know about the Amcrest, but if I remember right, the Foscam's had four tiny screws on the bottom. I believe two were under rubber feet and two were under seals that covered the holes. I don't think I unplugged all the cables. I mainly wanted to get to the underside of the circuit board to clean the residue left by the water. None of those cameras worked after getting soaked with water until I cleaned the circuit board with Isopropyl alcohol and a brush.
