Do any of you have a recommendation on a free (or close to free) tool that will monitor the PC that I have BI running on?

I have had a couple of occasions where my computer has not come back up from a restart. It is frustrating because I have not been able to pinpoint what is holding up the boot process. But, if I had a simple program to monitor the status of the PC I would be able to get it back online faster.

I know there are various paid solutions out there, but looking for something that works and is free and easy.

fix the issue itself...start with a clean install of windows....

It have the issue narrowed down to a hardware problem, and it should be corrected soon. However, problems can pop up at anytime and I would like to be able to be notified when the computer running BI is down. This is definitely not a BI problem, just looking for some real world experience on some monitoring apps/software that works well and is free.

I've used software like Nagios to monitor when parts of a network are down. You can set it up to send you an email once something is down for a certain amount of time. You can set it to tell when anything with an IP address is down. Nagios is free.

I use Pulseway to monitor my BI box. It is free for up to 2 systems. It can monitor services, processes, disk space, etc. You can receive push alerts through their app or email alerts. Very robust and reliable. I used to use Spiceworks, but Pulseway blows Spiceworks out of the water.

But what will you use to monitor the monitoring device?
