An LPR success story

So did the police not do anything after the June event due to the folks being out of state? And they just lucked into this one because of your system?
I think that's pretty much it. Out of state address, out of state license. Note that these guys lived in Louisville, but were driving a vehicle with an Indiana plate. I suspect that was deliberate, to throw off any investigations into a dead end to an address they didn't live at.

But that's what criminals don't understand about LPR. It doesn't matter if your plate is fake, forged, or stolen. It can still be put into an LPR alert system, and the police will be notified if that vehicle shows up again. And that's exactly what happened with my system.

Hopefully, the judge that gets this case will see fit to order restitution to be paid to the neighbor. Of course she may never get it, but at least the order could be put in.
I doubt these guys have two dimes to rub together. Probably every spare cent they find goes into buying drugs. From what I can tell with online records, they couldn't make bail, they've got a public defender, and they have another court appearance scheduled on Tuesday.

As far as my neighbor is concerned, she would gladly forgo restitution so long as they spend a few years in state prison.

I see you made two separate news stories with this.

But oh man; they had to show Wyze cameras in there. People are going to think they can capture licence plates!!

20 cameras ??? Amateur. :p

WOW great story.

The IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E and the IPC-B5442E-Z4E are very good camera for LPR/Long range using, aha, need some skills to do the settings on it, so newbie has to do more research.
@EMPIRETECANDY, have you ever considered selling a license plate capture bundle? In other words, sell a good NVR bundled with one or two Z12E cameras plus a 5442 camera for overview. That way when people ask about getting a camera system, you can tell them to buy the bundle for the basic hardware.

A Z12E picks up plates, but Dahua don't market that camera for recognition.
I reckon it would be better off to market a Blue Iris PC + licence and cameras combo on IPCT store.

A IPC-LPR237B-IR would work for recognition on most NVRs that have the function.
Certainly my NVR52X-I can do plate data bases but it doesn't do the AI on it's own. Which is such a shame given that a $300 Camera can pick up plates but it requires the software of a $900 camera to get an output.... this NVR is supposed to do AI on it's own!

I just wish that camera wasn't soo large and expensive <cry> .

You misunderstand. The camera package would not be for LPR, but for LPC. LPR is pure overkill for most residential roads. In my case I have thousands of cars that pass my home every week, but most residents might have only a handful of vehicles drive by each day. They can get by just fine with an overview camera and one or two cameras to record the plates, so that the homeowner can read the license plates by eye if needed. A Z12E camera is perfect for that.

I've had dozens of people ask me about my cameras, but I know that the overwhelming majority of them could never handle the configuration of a PC-based system using Blue Iris. Most people are absolutely terrified of computer technology. When I start to rattle off the model numbers of the equipment they'll need, they quickly lose interest.

Being able to say something like, "Buy the Empire Tech License Plate Capture LPC-1234 camera package" would at least get them over the hurdle of deciding what cameras and what NVR to purchase. If any of them ever decided to take it to the next step and swap out the NVR for a PC, then they'll have the cameras in place.

Ah, and would help keep the cost down.
Precisely. Lower cost, easier to install, and easy to maintain. It would be perfectly adequate for 99% of the people who ask me about it.

All @EMPIRETECANDY has to do is decide what equipment to include, bundle everything with a single price, and then advertise it as a system specifically intended for reading license plates.

I just got subpoenaed for a Tuesday morning court appearance with both defendants. My neighbor across the street also got subpoenaed, and has already been talking to a victim liaison specialist in the DA's office. We're both pretty surprised the court case is moving so fast. Neither perp has made bail yet, as far as I can tell.

Yes, a real system need bit time to make research, not easy to do package:)
The -Z12E is the standard for reading license plates, and a 5442 series camera works extremely well. It would be hard to go wrong with those models.

But I do understand your reluctance. It is very easy for people to screw things up, and then blame the vendor.

Yep, they would buy it without the sight lines and would aim it for a straight on side view and wonder why they couldn't get the plate LOL.

We laugh about that, but we know people have probably sent pictures like that to Andy complaining it doesn't read the plate LOL.

I say let 'em rot.

Wow that is fast. Probably because they haven't made bail they are trying to cycle them out of the system of an overcrowded jail. Do some plea deal and community service nonsense.
One of them is a convicted felon who crossed state lines with a firearm to commit more felonies. My wife is a social worker who has handled cases in the prison system for part of her career. Her opinion is that he is going to do at least 5 years due to mandatory sentencing laws. We shall see.

I hope so! When my system caught a felon with a gun, his 5 year mandatory sentence got him out in 2 years due to overcrowding.
