Animal IVS Intrusion & Tripwire alerts not sending to DMSS

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and have learned so much over the past month or so. Thanks to all of you who help us newbies figure this stuff out. I recently purchased some EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE cameras and a Dahua DHI-NVR5216-EI. We bought the cameras mainly to watch for animals, both for fun and for security. We live in a game reserve in South Africa so we get all of the typical African animals, but from a security standpoint we also want to keep watch for baboons when we are gone. They can be quite destructive, especially if they are determined to get into the house.

After receiving the cameras, I installed the latest firmware I received from Andy (currently on V3.142.15OG003.0.R, Build Date: 2024-12-21), and updated the NVR to the latest version as well. I have both intrusion and tripwire IVS rules set up, and both are setup to trigger for animals, along with people and vehicles. On the DMSS app the people and vehicle IVS triggers come through as they should, however the animal triggers never show up.

Using the search function on the NVR I can find all the IVS animal triggers, and there are dozens of them already just in the past couple days. Both the intrusion and tripwire rules are picking up the animals, just as we had hoped. It's just that the animal alerts are not being sent to DMSS.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Does anyone else that uses the animal IVS triggers get notifications for animals on their DMSS app?

I get animal intrusions when I use IVS rules with the animal filter on DMSS.

(I have an older NVR so the NVR itself, where the image/alert originates, doesnt have an animal filter)

That said, they don’t say animal explicitly, just tripwire or intrusion push alert and corresponding pic and video when I click into DMSS

Thank you bigredfish. It’s so strange. I emailed Andy to see if there is anything else I can try to force the alerts to be sent to DMSS. On the exact same Intrusion and Tripwire alerts both the vehicle and person alerts get sent to DMSS immediately. It’s only the animal alerts that do not come through all, regardless of being labeled or not. I’ll report back if I figure out what the problem is. In the meantime if anyone else is using the animal alerts, please let me know if yours also get sent to DMSS.

I get animal alerts with e-mail, I don't use DMSS.

Anyone else using DMSS getting animal alerts?
In DMSS, make sure you have notifications setup for that camera.
If you are using SMD: Go into Smart Motion Detection and enable "pet" for the video channel.
If you are using IVS: have tripwire and/or intrusion notifications enabled for the video channel.

Hi Mark_M. Thanks for the suggestions. I am only using IVS so SMD is disabled. I double checked that I had enabled the tripwire and intrusion alerts on DMSS, and they were both enabled for every camera.

The great news is I finally got the animal alert push notifications to work. When you set up a new IVS/Tripwire rule, there is an option called "Target Filter" that is automatically enabled by default. When the "Target Filter" option is enabled, you also have some "Effective Target" options that appear below it. It gives you the option to select Human, Motor Vehicle, and Animal. I had all three enabled, but only the Human and Motor Vehicle alerts were being sent to DMSS. I could see all of the animal alerts on our Dahua NVR, so I knew they were working.

In my case the fix ended up being really simple. All I had to do was disable "Target Filter" and then the animal alerts started coming through to DMSS immediately. It could just be an isolated issue with my setup, however due to the fact that the alerts were working for both Human and Motor Vehicle, it may also be a bug in the firmware. The only downside is that the alerts don't come through labeled anymore like "Intrusion Alarm-Human" or "Tripwire Alarm-Motor Vehicle". With the "Target Filter" setting off, all of the alerts simply say Intrusion Alarm or Tripwire Alarm. So you have to actually go into the footage to see what caused the alarm. If it is a firmware bug hopefully it will be sorted out in the next release.

Hopefully that helps anyone who is having issues with animal alerts on DMSS.
