I've pretty much decided on 2mp Dahua Starlight Ip cams.
I'll record at 15fps, 24/7 with motion events.
I will probably have a total of 8 cams. More then originally planned, that's Nayrs fault. :)

I'm trying to do this as energy efficient as practical.

I'm taking Fendermans advice and getting refurbed Optiplex when the proper deal shows up.

So, at what point in the number of cams do you need to move up to an I7?

Also, I have a weather station and use weather software on a current Core 2 Duo w/xp.
It uploads to varies sites. This takes approx 5% of cpu with peaks to 10% of the Core 2.
I know the recommendation is to not run anything else but BI, but is it possible my situation would work out so I can retire the current Pc doing the weather?

Thanks for suggestions.

you can easily run 8 2mp cams and your weatherstation on an i5-6500 skylake.
