Has anyone purchased a computer recently for BI use only? One that follows the recommendations of the forum i5-6400, i5-6500 etc. I have searched all over and can't seem to find one in the price range suggested, $300 or so. I would appreciated it if you have purchased one recently to let me know where you got it from. Really don't want to spent more than $500 and that would be on the high end. Dell outlet seems to have the best prices that I can find but are nearer my top end. Apparently this make take a while to find one. Thanks

see the treads that discuss them..dell outlet and ebay...dell outlet has sales all the time...and you can get a coupon for 12% off anytime by chatting with them.

Believe me I've read them all and know about the discounts. I think $300 is a bit low from what I'm finding now a days. Never know someone may have scored recently around that range. Thanks Mr. F

Thanks for that information Mr. F. I checked these two out and as you said just add more memory and I assume a hard drive as it's not mentioned. On the Dell site they have a i5-7400 for $400 with discount applied. It has everything needed I think for BI. 8GB DDR memory, 1TB hard drive, and windows pro. Most of the other I5's are i5-6400. They have lots of i5-7400 at higher prices. Or is a i5-6500 superior to the 7400?

Disregard looks like the 6500 is better than the 7400.

They are terribly similar CPUs, but the 7400 is a year newer which in this case means only a minor revision.
