I have 2 cameras running (DS-2CD2332-I & DS-2CD2012-I) on an Asus laptop with Win7, 6 GB RAM and i5-2450M CPU.

This is my daily, laying in the recliner goofing around on the web laptop, so Firefox and Adobe are usually running also.

CPU usage is typically in the 20%-40% range but at random times (viewing clips, recording and sometimes just watching live feed) the usage spikes to 95%-99% with BI eating the CPU.

I am recording direct to disk. What else can I check or change to drop this back down?

I was really hoping to not have to replace the laptop with an i7 yet.

That was set at 30 fps. I dropped it to 20 fps to see if that will make a difference.

Thanks

it will only make a difference if you cams were set to more than 20fps...what are your cameras set to?

try dropping to 15 or even 10...its only for the live view so it should really matter.

I have the same problem with 20 camera on my server and the problem comming from motion trigger and the pre-trigger buffer size who use a lot of CPU.
I change to continuous reccord but my new problem is that my 2 To hdd is full for only 5 days of reccord.

Good luck

I do live view at 5fps and record at 10fps. That keeps your usage fairly low. I have 9x 3MP and 1x 1.3 cams.

Thanks for the replies.

I am still playing with settings but think that this processor is just not fast enough to run it.
