Is it possible to run BI on an RPI? If so could someone point me in the right direction for instructions.

BI needs to run on Windows, and Pi's run linux.

Also BI needs a fair amount of horsepower, I5 or I7, current or previous generation

I'd like to hide the host platform away. What's a good mini PC you'd recommend.

Can I access a BI UI through a LAN address so I don't have to have a dedicated screen?
 
Yes, BI acts as a webserver, so you can access it using ip addresses.
I'd recommend BP's revised BI pages
I made a better remote-live-view page

Once you setup the PC and BI, you don't need to access it to view cameras.
You can use teamviewer to do things you have to do at the PC.
You can really only monitor the cams remotely, if you want to make changes to BI you need to use teamviewer or do it at the PC.
Not sure about mini PCs, others may be able to chime in here.

Thank you. I was just looking on the web and noticed an Asus vivo mini PC. They come with i3 5 or 7 processors with 2 4 or 8gb of Ram. They are not about 15cm by 15cm and ideal to hide away. Nor sure if they are powerful enough.

Do not use the mini pc...use a pc that an hold a 3.5 drive and has a full power processor.
 
Linux has a Windows emulator called WINE. I havent had mucn success witnn wine, but it is possible. Let me know how you go, cos i a interested in if BI works successfully
 
the question is about possibility.
The BlueIris is run on Windows, if you could install windows on raspberry then you have possibility to run Blue Iris.
Take a look for Windows 10 IOT, and try to install it on raspberry Pi and then install BlueIris.

but if you have additional question like "is it recomend to install BlueIris on raspberry", the answer is "Not Recomended"

I just wondering, if you use raspberry as monitor device only or use it as thin client it's more reasonable i think.
 
No, even in 2019 it isn't going to work. Blue Iris is compiled for 32 and 64 bit x86 CPUs. Raspberry Pi runs an ARM CPU. It uses totally different executable code.

I don't know if Windows 10 IOT on a pi can run x86 executables through an emulation layer, but even if it could, the performance would be just utterly terrible. Even cell phones are typically faster than a raspberry pi. (even the pi 4 which is brand new within the last month or so)

The only way you can realistically use Blue Iris from a raspberry pi is to use the pi as a simple remote client running a web browser or a remote desktop client of some sort.

I use an old Dell SFF PC, i5 CPU with an M.2 drive, and Nvidia 760 GPU. Runs 9 cameras at 15fps, 2mg stream at 30% CPU and 10% GPU power.
It's been working flawlessly. I even hot the AI installed yesterday, only to discover that the 760 GPU doesnt have the proper CUDA version. So I guess I'll upgrade that next.

A small form factor is not a mini PC...

There are hundreds of posts on SFF systems...Some even have room for 2 3.5 drives.
