BIG Owl on my Trail

6 Coyotes Howling on Camera, Thoroughbred Trail, 08/28/23

I finally caught them howling on camera! It's not any louder than any of my other howling videos, so those must have been fairly close.

What a racket!

Barn Owl (?) on Thoroughbred Trail 09/03/23

Looks like a Barn Owl to my uneducated eye. Certainly doesn't look like a GHO.

What do you think?

Ojai Raptor Center confirms that this is a Barn Owl. I haven't seen one in my yard in awhile. Now I just need him/her to move into the perfectly-good Barn Owl Box that's just off-camera to the right:

And now I know why my interior cam on the Owl Box has been offline for the last 6 days. A branch blew over a few weeks ago, and had been leaning on the Ethernet cable which tugged on the ABS baffle glued to the side of the box. It all finally failed at exactly 6:38:38 on 9/10/23:

Efforts at resurrection are here.

Owl With Prey? 09/19/23

When it turns its head it looks like it's got something in its mouth, and it looks to be squirming a bit. And then it eats it .

Could it be a mouse? And what species of owl is this?

Looks like a mouse/mole/vole/similar to me. Can't offer help on owl species besides Googling. Nice capture though.

Coyote With Chicken or Peafowl? 09/26/23

I'm not 100% what it is, but I think I can see a chicken foot. Actually it could be a peafowl, since it's so large. We have a lot of peafowl around here.

5 Coyotes on Thoroughbred Trail 10/12/23

I hadn't seen all 5 together in awhile.

I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords, and pray they'll be benevolent.

My coyote is broken:

S/he seems to be getting around ok:

but I don't know if that will translate into hunting successfully.

Does anyone know if coyotes will share food?

Apparently a limping coyote can sometimes make a full recovery!

Injured Coyote Still Courts and Plays, 11/16/23

The first time I scanned my footage I didn't even realize this was my injured coyote. He doesn't seem to be very impaired by his injury at all. A few minutes earlier he was boinging his way up the trail:

And apparently mid-November is time for this sort of thing. This was exactly a year and a day ago:

Now limping less, and putting some weight on that leg when not running:

4 Coyotes Playing on Thoroughbred Trail, 12/07/23

Some courtship, some playing, some more courtship.

I believe one of the two courting adults is the one that was limping a few weeks ago, and s/he seems to have recovered completely.
