this vehicle is largely recreational, it can go weeks or mebe even a month without being started.. and with all the electronics in it everything will go to shit if I let the battery go flat.

I was thinking the same thing.

You can buy this bare pcb: Battery protector low V disconnect cut-off shut-off switch PCB, DIY 12V 6V solar
but you could probably diy something better,
