I'm researching building a new Blue Iris NVR which may support up to 8 4k cams (max.. right now, I only have 1 for testing). I also have an old Win7 Media center TV that I use to record over-the-air TV via a Hauppauge dual tuner card.

To avoid having 2 PCs sucking up space/power/etc, my wife suggested I just build a better combo box. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

In my head, I was thinking about an i7 chip as the main processor, continuing to use the hauppauge card for the OTA, and possibly getting a Nvidia card for for blue iris to utilize the cuda cores. The OS would be on an SSD, and the OTA and Blue Iris videos would be on separate spindle drives.

Does this seem smart or do you think the system will still overload the main CPU?

* The new OS would be Win10, which would mean that I'll have to move away from Media Center and to Plex or perhaps some other freeware option.
