I have been using BI for years with almost no issues. Now, all of the sudden I am update BI and have no longer have remote access (I do have access in my house via wifi). Just to be sure, I turned off my Firewall, virus software, Xfinity Enhanced security, and deleted and reconfigured port forwarding, but this did not solve the problem). I received a message from Ken at BI who said that Comcast is blocking his domain and to call Comcast. I called Comcast and spent hours on the phone, to no avail. Any ideas how to fix this are welcomed.

I did the same with Comcast and do a similar thing now with FiOS, but don't need the modem. Anybody need an Arris modem for Comcast use?

+1 on setting up a VPN vs port forwarding but I still have a question:

Is this "remote access" that no longer works, is that via the BI smartphone app, UI3 or both?
If it's the app, have you tried deleting the server and then re-adding it, paying attention to the WAN and LAN IP's and the forwarded port to be correct?

So here is the current status. I installed IP-Vanish and was able to update BI. I am able to get an IP address with VPN but not with port forwarding. In either case neither Ui3 nor remote access on a BI smart phone works. Using Canyouseeme.org, ever port I try comes ups with a time out error, I also tried Ngrok at Ken’s suggestion but am unable to get it to work.

You aren’t utilizing the correct VPN. What you signed up for with IP Vanish is really an outbound only service which basically hides your internet surfing traffic. What you want is to host your own VPN so that you can tunnel back to your home network from anywhere and see your cameras. Look up OpenVPN. You can run OpenVPN on a Raspberry Pi and it’s relatively easy to setup and use.

My general VPN post
There are two types of VPN, do not get them confused.
The type depends on where the traffic conversation originates

1) origination: local home network, destination the internet.
This type of VPN is purpose to hides your activity from the internet, it is outbound, it normally costs a monthly fee to use. Direction is from your home PC to the internet, going to your bank, google, porn sites,,,, this not what you want. This VPN uses a VPN server that is in the middle of your communications.

2) Origination: the internet world wide web, destination: your home network.
This VPN type is used to provide a secure connection onto your local network, in bound to you local home network, from your office computer, your cell phone in your car, tablet at the coffee shop.. This is what you want, it does not have a monthly fee and is normally completely free. OpenVPN is this type of VPN.

If you home internet provider is a cellular network, then DDNS (dynamic Domain Name System) may not work, the DDNS is needed for most Inbound VPN services (OpenVpn) to get your home IP address (it is not static) so OpenVPN may not work for you.

A video on the paid VPN.
