I am new to Blue IRIS and trying the 15 day trial before buying. I am thinking about using this to replace my Synology as the surveillance software. The java view isn't my favorite that I have seen and want to try the active x version.

When I open up the browser view in IE or Chrome, I just see the install active X link. I have tried installing it on both browsers and changed the security active x options to prompt on most of them. Any other ideas? I don't know what else to try?

I registered just to reply to this post. The lack of alternative OS/browser support is infuriating to me.

Other than installing the ActiveX plug-in, there wasnt anything else special that i had to do to get the ActiveX feed working on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 using IE... but who uses IE?

Windows + Chrome or Firefox == Fail. only the JPEG Refresh worked.
OSX + Chrome, Safari, or Firefox == Fail also. ActiveX is a Windows only technology but I fully expected the Java/JPEG feed to work but it didn't. only the JPEG Refresh worked.

It looks like Chrome announced on 11/2014 that they are ending support for NPAPI plugins and the BlueIris devs have either been slow to address or dont care to address:

Annoying

Keep in mind that there is only ONE blue iris developer...he runs the whole show...The BI4 release notes indicate updates to the web clients as well as new window client. In the interim you may also want to try this by @bp2008 http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/93-I-made-a-better-remote-live-view-page

Blue Iris comes with quite a few web pages you can load. Most notably:

1. default.htm - This loads an ActiveX plugin and so it only works in Internet Explorer on Windows. It has the most features out of all the pages included in the official Blue Iris release (including the ability to play audio), and it uses a proper video format (not jpeg-based) so it is fairly efficient with bandwidth.

2. jpegpull.htm - This loads video frames as individual jpeg snapshots and works in practically any browser. Yes, jpeg-based video is practically stone age technology these days, but it is currently the only feasible way to provide video without requiring plugins.

3. jpegpush.htm - This loads an old Java plugin and works with mjpeg video, so it works (painfully) in several different browsers. But the only benefit of using this over jpegpull.htm is a slightly higher frame rate of video. I never recommend using this page.

If none of the above suits you, there is an alternative created by me which fenderman linked above. http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/93-I-made-a-better-remote-live-view-page

I may be biased, but I believe my UI2 page is the next best thing to using a native Blue Iris application.
