Car broken into AGAIN!!!!

This is so frustrating.......Even with strong LED floodlights I added and multiple cameras.....it was all useless!!!!

My 4mm 5442 and other cams caught the guy but due to motion + distance + hoodie and mask, it isn't very helpful. Some changes I made now:

  • Increased the 1/120 shutter speed to around 1/180
  • Increased bitrate 6K to 8K
  • Increased framerate 15 to 20FPS.

I need to do something more ..... Maybe add a 2 way camera or speaker and setup Rules in Milestone so it can play back an alarm or message ? (Tripwire and intrusion rules work great for event logging on Milestone).

Also maybe add a 6mm or varifocal 2347 with built-in additional lighting for close up of face because my 5442 4mm sucks at this.

And if above doesn't work then maybe a simple driveway motion alarm?

Post a video so we can see where the improvements need to be. Lights on their own don't do anything. The lights are strictly for the camera to operate with minimal motion blur.

You could add a PIR of course that covers your driveway. Attach it to bell or speaker.

Can you recommend a PIR and bell? Or what I should look for generally.
 
That's actually not terrible. Yes, a tighter shot would show more detail. I'd post that to nextdoor.com and see if anyone recognizes him. Be sure to file the police report so everything is on file. I see the car door open so I guess it was unlocked? Lock those door, Warp!!

Guardline Driveway Alarms have been recommended on this forum before. I don't own one personally so I can't vouch for it. I'm sure someone will be along later to help on that.

Yeah I don't know what happened. Maybe I forgot to lock it. At least my window wasn't smashed and car damaged like last time when it WAS locked

That guardline seems like it would generate too many false positives and I want a speaker outside. Also want something smart and not analog. My milestone intrusion detection is working perfectly. Maybe I can integrate that with an alarm.

Looks like a good shot to me... yes, could be a bit better.

So, next I'd want to have data that he is doing this to more than just one car, evidence - so a video that shows a broader view also ( i.e. a 2nd camera ) that I can also show the police.
( some states the police do little if less than $1000 stolen.. )

Yeah cops won't do anything. They might get back in 1 week....to collect footage...

That's actually a good picture. Were you home at the time? The one ring product I use (well two counting the doorbell) is the security system. I put a motion sensor from the kit in the car. It doesn't stop a break in but the push alert will wake me up while it's happening and that push alert comes in two seconds. People here have all kinds of measures as to how they'd deal with a guy they can run up on in the act. I shudder to think. I know I'd make sure the only way he'd continue his low life of crime is from a wheelchair, that's for sure. Ring is also coming out with an advanced car sensor kit too. One thing about the ring stuff, the push notifications are spot on fast and reliable.

Wouldn't it make more sense for me to get a real security system installed in my car ? And yeah both times I was home but unaware because late night.
 
I think he is using Milestone but I'd guess (hope) there is a way to trigger an audio alert via motion like BI can.

I have BI send me a text to my phone from 10pm to 4am when it detects motion in my driveway.

That sucks - sorry to hear that happened to you again.

I think that pic along with video posted to Nextdoor or FB would allow someone to recognize that person.

I remember many of us suggested you get at least one varifocal so you can dial it in too!

You could always add an active deterrence cam as an overview as well - the alarm may or may not scare them away, but without some kind of alarm going off, they will continue for sure.

Real as in what, offering what? These low life's no longer get spooked by motion lights. My opinion, they're mostly willing to roll the dice that some 'message' saying something is BS too. I wouldn't count on that these days. The best way is to be alerted as quickly as possible while it's happening and not rely on gimmicks. Whatever you choose, make sure it has motion sensing that alerts you immediately so you can nip it in the bud while it's going down. You run out there full stream, trust me, they'll bolt and that particular person will not be back. Been there, done that.

hmmm... Car Alarm.. wondering if there is one which is connected to the cell phone network.

That would be good.

Get the speaker in the house so you know someone is out in your property. Take your M16 and go out maybe shot a bullet or 2 to the ground and scare him off. These days people wants other people's property lawfully. straight to socialism.
